Toyota Etios Liva versus Ford Figo

It’s a great new rivalry between two global automobile giants Toyota and Ford in the Indian Small car market. The Toyota puts up its case with the Liva, the hatchback form of the Etios, Toyotas lower end sedan. The Americans are defending their case with the new Figo, a small and cute car with enough power to leave a few behind. On first looks, the Figo looks way smaller than the Liva owing to its compact design and low height. The Liva looks plain and simple whereas, the Figo has a bit of aggression and fun in its design and also with the amazing colours that it is available in.

On the interior, the Liva is simple yet effective. The seats are comfortable and ergonomically designed with integrated headrests. The Figo also has good interiors and might be slightly less comfortable than the Liva. On the Gadgets and Gizmos section, both cars fail to impress, with minimal technical add onns. The Liva however, is a better bet in the interiors department and wins this battle. Going under the hood, the Figo stores an 1196CC 16V DOHC DURATEC petrol engine, giving a maximum power of 71PS with sequential Electronic Fuel Injection. The Liva houses an 1197CC 3NR-FE DOHC petrol engine giving a maximum power of an impressive 80PS with Electronic Fuel Injection System.

The Liva has power windows as standard but in the Figo, it is only available in the front seats. Other features in the Liva include fog lamps, aux and USB connectivity and steering mounted controls. The ford Figo has Height Adjustable Driver’s seat and Hydraulic power assisted steering. Toyota Liva gives an impressive mileage of 18.31 kilometres to the Litre, whereas the Figo gives a mileage of 15 kilometres to the litre.

The Ford Figo is priced low as compared to the Toyota Liva, with its base version starting at Rs.4.68 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom Delhi) and the Liva’s base model starting at Rs. 5.99 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom Delhi). The huge difference between the prices makes the Ford Figo the front runner but, in this comparison, the major factor is the type of consumer and his demands.

The Figo is for the young user, who wants to go about his usual businesses in a bit of style and fun. The trendy colours of the Ford Figo along with its coloured dash provide it a very young and trendy appeal. The Liva on the other hand is a very plain and simple car, more suited to family people. The straight lines of the Liva along with its dull interiors give it quite a boring feel. One reason to buy the Liva would be the sheer quality, reliability and longevity of a Toyota vehicle which in unmatched by any brand.
