Seventh Generation Toyota Camry launched in India

The new 2012 Toyota Camry is the seventh generation Camry model to be launched by Toyota. The interior is known to have a better look, with a more powerful four-cylinder engine. This model will compete against its strong counterparts being; Honda Accord and Nissan Altima. Toyota Kirloskar Motors has launched the New seventh generation Camry in India, the car will be manufactured in Bangalore at TKM’s Bangalore facility. Speaking on the launch, according to Managing Director-TKM, Hiroshi Nakagawa, “This is the seventh generation of Camry, We will be manufacturing it locally in India so that it can be available easily.” He also said that the model will be manufactured around the world in ten different locations, Bangalore being the eleventh place.

Two engine options are available in the New Camry. This model has a five passenger seating option. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, the 3.5-liter and V6 has a 268hp and an option of 248 lb-ft of torque. The only transmission available is six-speed automatic which sends power to the front wheels. The base L and LE trims are fitted with the option of four-cylinder only. The L model is equipped with air-conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth and a six-speaker sound system with a USB interface. The XLE variant has a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, power front seats and leather upholstery (V6) along with larger touchscreen and an improvised navigation system.

The petrol model has a 2.5 litre engine delivering 178.5bhp and 233 Nm at 4100 rpm with a dual variable valve timing-intelligent system (VVT-I). The engine is also equipped with an intelligent electronic control system (ETCS-I) facilitating easier acceleration control with more flexible gearshift changes by adjusting the throttle valve in accordance to accelerators opening. The vibration free engine is fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox for sequential shift. The safety features are front and rear crushing zone side impact bars, air bags, seat belts. A brake assist system fitted with air vented disc rotors for front and Standard disc rotors for rear which helps protect the driver when brakes are not applied with sufficient pressure. This system increases braking force even when peddle is not pushed enough, thereby preventing jerks. Other safety features are ‘Key Less Entry’ together with an immobiliser.

The interiors is tailored with a automatic climate control, fabric or leather seats, audio system with 10 CD changer, scratch resistant retractable rear view mirrors, body coloured side protective molding’s. The quality of material used in the interiors matches the needs of supreme quality demand of customers, enhanced with high-end surface material.

Statistics reveal, the New Camry is being sold to 40,000 people every month. The New Camry has increased in its profit sale; the company sold 314,788 Camry models, during the September end period, higher than last year’s profit. The New Toyota Camry has been encountering steep market demand despite the natural disasters touring Japan and South East Asia.

The New Toyota Camry projects a smart and trendy appeal with sporty outlook. Overall the model has remarkable exterior, interior and safety features on comparison with its predecessor. Hence this model will be an instant hit with customers.
