Toyota Motor, the number 1 auto maker in the world does not have a very expansive presence in the Indian car market, although it is slowly expanding. Toyota has presence in India through a joint venture with Kirloskar Motor and sells its cars through the company name Toyota Kirloskar Motor. It is keen to introduce many new cars in India, as the Indian car market is considered to be very potential, where global auto giants are pouring their quality models.
Toyota introduced its very classy and performing people carrier Innova in India, back in the year 2004. Post launch the car did not have to look back, as its sheer quality and classy styling won over the Indian consumers, who gave an excellent response to the Innova. Despite being quite costly as compared against the competitors in a price conscious market like India, Innova had been an all successful vehicle drawing great volumes to sustain its Japanese maker in India. The Innova’s superior space, comfort, styling and driving dynamics had always given the vehicle an edge over its competitors, which was further reinforced by the outstanding after sales service. This ensured that Innova remains a consistent favorite in its own segment.
Innova’s great success and the Indian car consumer’s constant admiration for the classy vehicle made Toyota very relaxed and confident about this vehicle. Thus Toyota did not seriously consider upgrading the car thoroughly and simply gave the model minor facelifts with cosmetic changes and slight enhancements in the year 2009 and 2011.
In the year 2009, Toyota Kirloskar Motor also launched the Fortuner SUV in India, which was also an instant hit. The popular SUV also got a facelift from its maker in the year 2011. After it appeared with a fresher visual appeal, the SUV got even better response from the consumers, drawing great volumes.
However, things are a little different now. The Indian car market used to be a place where small compact and mini cars mostly rules, but now the hottest of the segments in the industry are that of the more expensive and luxurious compact SUVs, Sedans and MUVs.
The Indian car market is being flooded with new SUVs like Mahindra Quanto, Rexton, Renault Duster, and Ford EcoSport. Even the market leader Maruti Suzuki which is small car specialist launched its very popular MUV Ertiga, and is known to come up with a compact SUV soon enough.
These are reasons enough for Toyota to consider bringing in the next generation model for its all time popular Innova. The all new Toyota Innova is expected to have a more aggressive and appealing design language, while also offering greater and enhanced performance boosted by latest technology.
However, the more stunning and powerful next-gen Innova is not expected to make a debut before the year 2016. According to reports, the all new Innova will get several upgrades both on the design and powertrain fronts in order to lock horns with the great new launches in the market and to draw greater attention from consumers.
