The Toyota Motor Corp’s long term relationship with India has been due to production and sales of its cars. This two pronged relationship of service and business has been appreciated by customers and business partners since it has been profitable for all. Since its debut in 1997 through a partnership with Kirloskar India, Toyota has launched several sedan and multi-utility vehicles in India. While some of its cars launched in India were locally manufactured, models like Land Cruiser and Prius were imported due to popular demand. Toyota’s cars have been in high demand due to belief in their product quality and nationwide network of service centers.
For 2013 Toyota has introduced a mix of cars manufactured in its production units in India and a few international popular variants. Among these were two hybrid varieties comprising Prius and Camry Hybrid which till now had not been introduced as Indian market is not very receptive to expensive cars. Though the exterior of Camry Hybrid is not very different from Toyota’s existing sedans, its interiors are luxurious. Built for maximum comfort this car’s rear seats and front headrest can be operated electronically from its armrest controls. Due to its eco-friendly mechanism it is heavier therefore the wheelbase has been made wider for better road grip.
Car enthusiasts are also eagerly awaiting launch of its compact SUV the Toyota Rush which may be available towards 2013 – 2014. Though an official announcement has not been made there have been several reports to suggest that the model to be sold in India will be revealed in Indian Auto Expo 2014. The Toyota Rush which has enjoyed a successful stint in Indonesia will be positioned below its existing model Fortuner, and will be introduced as a second generation variant with length of 4 meters. The Toyota Fortuner 2.5 L latest version will also be launched with a 2.5 litre engine and a price tag of INR 20 – 22 lakhs to compete with BMW cars in luxury segment. The few changes in this new model will be top-mounted intercooler complimented with a better fuel efficient engine providing 343 Nm torque. Market reports suggest that the new Fortuner will have complete black interiors with a few shades of silver which is a vast difference from earlier sand beige color. A popular European sedan car to be launched in India towards end of 2013 will be the Toyota Vios packaged with elegance and safety. This four door sedan already existing in Thailand was a remake of Toyota’s previous Tercel model and will be priced lesser than Corolla and Camry with a 1.5 liter diesel engine. The Vios is likely to be launched in three trims namely J, E and G similar to Singapore market. The Toyota Vios will have sleek exteriors with uniquely designed headlamps and smoked exterior finish. Its interiors will be large due to foldable rear seats and wide baggage area. Along with these cars discussions are on with Toyota’s dealers to also launch its 1.5 TRD Sportivo variant towards end of 2013 or early 2014 in Indian markets.
