Toyota Motor has confirmed on 5th of October that it will showcase the much speculated Fuel Cell vehicle concept at the upcoming Tokyo Motor show. This new Hydrogen powered sedan from the house of Toyota is expected to make its market launch in the year 2015.
This Toyota upcoming green car is a 4 seater sedan that will have a range of 500 kilometers and can be refueled in just 3 minutes by filling up its inbuilt hydrogen gas tanks. The Japanese car major also revealed prior to the motor show that this Fuel Cell sedan will be longer and better styled than the previous versions.
Toyota also revealed that the fully developed production model of this fully green mid-sized sedan will be mass produced and launch sometime in the year 2015. The car maker confidently says that by 2015 Japan is most likely to have lots of hydrogen refueling pumps and so do the United States and Europe, and thus the viability of the fuel cell cars in the mass market is immense.
Toyota considers the Fuel cell technology most apt for the future mobility system as this is the ultimate green vehicle that gives out only water vapor as emissions, and it operates on hydrogen gas that is found abundantly in our atmosphere.
Toyota`s concept vehicle seeks to jump two key hurdles that analysts say have hindered consumer buying of so-called green cars, including electric vehicles — range and re-fuelling infrastructure.
The fuel cell vehicle’s hindrances come in the form of the high development costs and the absence of hydrogen refueling pumps. However, these are being resolved and Toyota says that it can reduce the cost considerably for its hydrogen cars. The demand for the green but more expensive cars are also expected to boost with time due to government support and technological advancements.
Being the global auto leader, Toyota Motor is planning to showcase a host of new innovative car concepts at the Tokyo auto show that will take place from 20th November to 1st December, 2013. Toyota has a Japan only taxi up its sleeves that comes powered by the green technology while also catering to needs of Japan’s aged citizens.
Toyota reveals that its hybrid taxi concept has electric sliding door to make it easier for the people with wheelchair or baby strollers. The taxi will have a screen fixed at the back of the front seats to provide information about taxi fares and various routes. The company wishes to launch this vehicle before the expected rise in demand for taxis when Japan hosts the 2020 Olympic Games.
Apart from these green cars, Toyota will also display a very futuristic concept car, the Fun Vehicle 2 or FV2. This car can detect the mood or emotions of the driver though facial expression detection and change its color accordingly. The car’s windshield can also warn oncoming vehicles of its presence through color alerts. Moreover, the diver can change the direction of this car by simply shifting his body weight.
