The world’s automotive leader Toyota is in constant endeavor to offer something new to the global car consumers. Back in India, the Japanese car giant’s joint venture presence, Toyota Kirloskar Motors is also trying to keep the ante high with the introduction of new cars and models for the Indian car buyers.
Just recently, Toyota has introduced two new models of its popular Etios Liva in the Indian car market in order to offer more choice to the Indian consumers. Now, the Etios Cross has been spotted in India.
The Toyota Etios Cross was spied in Pune, India when the car was being snapped for promotional activities.
The Toyota Etios Cross is already being offered for sale in the international car markets such as Argentina and Brazil. This crossover has been developed by Toyota based on the platform of its popular Liva hatchback. The crossover model looks and feels quite similar to its hatchback sibling and also utilizes very similar mechanical specifications. However, obviously it is a different car and a crossover that is different than that of the regular Etios Liva hatch. The Etios Cross comes with a lot of distinctive features on its exterior front. The Cross features its very own body kit that lends a more aggressive look. The crossover also comes along with roof rails that can store a lot of luggage, while its own unique bigger and bolder alloy wheels add to the aggressive looks. Toyota has incorporated all these exterior features in order to give the vehicle the appearance of a conventional off-roader and the Japanese auto maker has done a good job in doing the same.
When the Indian car market is concerned, then the segment of the crossover cars is entirely new. The segment started with the arrival of the Volkswagen Cross Polo based on its popular Polo that launched in 2013. Needless to say that the Toyota Etios Cross post launch will be locking its horns with the Cross Polo and the upcoming Fiat Punto Cross.
The Etios Cross for India obviously has the right hand drive system which is the first such model of the Cross. The Etios Cross might be offered in only its diesel version in India as it can take the tax benefits of sub 4-metre vehicle. It is expected to be powered by the same 1.4-litre D-4D diesel mill that powers the Etios and the Liva.
The Toyota Etios Cross is expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo followed by a market launch soon.
Given the intense market competition and the price sensitive market of India, Toyota is expected to keep the pricing of the Etios Cross competitive. In the Brazilian market, the Etios Cross costs over Rs. 12 lakh plus, but in India it is expected to cost much lesser. Toyota is heavily localizing for the Etios Cross and this could mean more attractive pricing than the Cross Polo which is priced under 8 lakhs.
