The 2014 Indian Auto Expo is expected to be improved this year, as all the auto majors in India are braced with outstanding new offerings to be showcased at the show. The Auto Expo is considered to be the best platform in India for the display of new offerings, and this year the array of new products from almost every car majors in India is more vibrant and diversified. The number of new offering from the various auto makers are also considerably more this time. This is because of the slumped market condition and the increased competition among the car makers to grab consumer attention with new products.
This is also true for the Japanese auto major and world’s car leader, Toyota. Toyota’s Indian joint presence Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is also eager to boost its sales and grab more market shares in India. As result, Toyota is also trying to impress the audience with a strong exhibit line at this Expo.
To begin with, the all new Corolla will be showcased by Toyota. The iconic Corolla which is most favored car in the world has not that big a hit in India and has been losing to its market rivals in the domestic market. Most of the Corolla buyers in India are the matured lot, while the younger bunch preferred the gorgeous looking cars. The Corolla was never the head turning looker. However, now it has come in its new much bolder and stunning avatar that looks nothing like its older model. And this could be potential game changer for TKM.
The new-gen Corolla has changed its looks to become absolutely contemporary with a bold new front fascia with stylized headlights and 3 chrome slats grille. However, the front bumper still adheres to Toyota’s conservative approach. The overall design is evolutionary though with bold body creases and sharp features.
On the inside, The European specification of the new Corolla comes with all black interior, but the Indian counterpart could come with beige upholstery. The cabin also gets a new touchscreen infotainment system along with more rear space owing to the new car’s slightly longer proportion. The all new Corolla in India will be powered by the same 1.8 liter petrol engine and the 1.4 diesel mill mated to the transmission options of manual and automatic gearboxes.
Toyota is also entering the crossover segment in India and will unveil its Etios Cross at the Expo. Based on the Etios platform, the Etios Cross has aggressive looking bumpers, plastic side claddings, roof rails and a better ground clearance to give it an off-roader stance. In India it will compete with the Volkswagen Cross Polo.
Toyota will showcase its FT-86 II concept at the Expo, though it is not really required as the production version GT-86 is already selling internationally.
Apart from these, all the vehicles from Toyota’s existing portfolio in India, including the recently refreshed Innova will be exhibited at the Expo.
