The iconic Toyota Corolla sedan has already emerged in the global car markets, though it has not launched in India. The new generation Corolla has come with a bolder face and new style quotient in order to wipe out its reputation as a very efficient but plain Jane appeal. Apart from the more stylish visual looks, Toyota has also improved the veteran sedan’s suspension to offer better ride and handling. Thus, the new 11th generation Corolla is all the more desirable than ever becoming the top selling car of the world in 2013.
Back in the Indian car market, the Corolla is known as the Corolla Altis, and though it is a respective car it does not sell as much as its international counterparts. The upper C segment in India has become very competitive recently with the arrival of the new Honda City that has already outshone the previous segment leader Hyundai Verna. In order to boost sales and recreate an impression for the Corolla Altis, thus Toyota is about to launch the all new model in India. Post its launch in India, the new Corolla will be fighting with the new City, Verna and the other sedans in the segment.
World’s auto leader, Toyota unveiled the new Corolla Altis in India at this year’s Auto Expo held in February. Apart from the new-generation Corolla Altis, Toyota also unveiled the Etios Cross. Interestingly, both the new cars from the house of Toyota are to be launched in India in the month of May. While the Etios Cross is supposed to launch on 7th May, the all new Corolla Altis will reportedly launch on 27th of May.
The close to 5 decade old brand Corolla has always redefined itself with time, and in its 11th generation model it packs in a whole lot of new goodies. Apart from bolder, sharper looks and improved driving experience, the sedan is expected to be packed to the hilt with new features to fight it out with its market rivals. It has also become more contemporary and more luxurious and now offers more space owing to its slightly bigger dimensions.
The new Corolla Altis will offer LED daytime running lights over the new head and tail lights. The cabin has also become more plush and stylish. It features eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, reclining rear seats, reverse camera with parking sensors, a reading lamp, a new infotainment system with 7.1 inch touchscreen and automatic rain sensing wipers among many others.
The new Corolla will retain the same 1.8 liter petrol engine delivering 138bhp of power and the 1.4 liter diesel mill offering 87bhp of power. Both the petrol and diesel engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, while the petrol will also get the choice of a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor India has already commenced the pre-launch bookings of the new Corolla Altis for the amount of Rs. 50,000. The new model is expected to be costlier than the ongoing model.
