Toyota Kirloskar Motor is soon going to launch the 2014 Corolla Altis in India. And now, it is officially revealed that the all new sedan will be offered in seven variants in India. The sedan will be available in four diesel variants, while the other three variants will be in petrol version. The petrol version of the 2014 Corolla Altis will get only three variants, as Toyota will not be launching the base model for the petrol version initially and it could be later added to the lineup. The four diesel model trims of the 2014 Corolla in India are: J, JS, G and GL, while the three petrol model trims are: V, VL MT and VL AT.
All the petrol and diesel model trims of the 2014 Corolla Altis will feature an LCD touch-screen infotainment system along with Bluetooth, Aux-In, USB capabilities as standard. While the high two variants of both the petrol and diesel versions will also get a reverse parking sensor and steering wheel mounted audio controls. Only the top of the range model trims, namely the GL diesel and the VL AT will get some additional premium features to mark them apart from the other lower variants. The top-end models will be getting premium leather upholstery, push button start/stop system and reverse camera. Only the top two model trims will get new stylish alloy wheels.
The top-end variants also get to flaunt automatic headlamps with LED daytime running lights, while the rest of the variants only get regular halogen headlamps. The all new Corolla Altis will get great safety features complete with dual front airbags, Brake Assist system and ABS with EBD that will be offered as standard equipments on all the seven model trims.
As far as the mechanical bits are concerned, the all new Toyota Corolla Altis has retained the engine range from the previous generation model. It will be thus powered by the very same 1.4 liter D-4D diesel mill for the diesel version that has the capability to produce a max power of 87 bhp and a peak torque of 2015 Nm. The petrol version of the sedan will be powered by a 1.8 liter VVT-I petrol mill that churns out a max power of 138 bhp and a peak torque of 173 Nm. Both the petrol and diesel engines are mated to an efficient 6 speed manual transmission gearbox as standard, while the petrol top of the line trim is offered with a 7 speed automatic transmission gearbox. Toyota has also improved the suspension of the car.
The iconic Toyota Corolla sedan in currently in its 11th model and is already available in international markets. The 2014 Corolla Altis with a new bolder design will launch in Indian very soon and is expected to be tagged at around Rs. 12 lakh to Rs. 17 lakh price slab. It will fight it out with the Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze, Volkswagen Jetta and Renault Fluence.
