A global recall is a serious issue; Toyota models are packed with adequate safety and technology to protect occupants during the event of urgencies. Despite the numerous recalls that involve safety concerns, there were no incidents that involved injuries or accidents. The company will alert dealers and owners about the issues that need to be fixed. The fixing will happen free of cost.

A summary of the recall figures and issues taken into consideration, Toyota has recalled 260,000 vehicles in US. Much of the recall is centred on seatbelts, the company has set up a new headquarter unit in Texas. The firm puts a halt to manufacture unit in Australia and ceases operation procedures in India.

The biggest recall was Sienna minivans, around 450,000 units of the vehicles were alerted, 2004 to 2011 models. Toyota has targeted vehicles sold in countries which encountered harsh winters, and the reason is related to environment, road salt corrodes spare tire carrier beneath the car, and there are chances of the tire falling off.

The reason for the recall of Sienna models from 2004 to 2010 is because of the cold environmental issue. Toyota formulated measures to fight adverse cold environment with the application of anti-rust protection and splash protector. Toyota is concerned that the splash protector might falls off and the car is exposed to rust. The company recalled about 370,000 Sienna minivans in US, 400 in Europe and 80,000 in Canada.

The recall was not just restricted to Sienna vans; Toyota recalled 350 sedans and 16,000 Lexus model launched in 2013. The defect here was the activation of brakes with no warning. Majority of vehicles with brake defects were rolled out in US with the flow of 10,500 units. The issue involved left hand drive sedans sold in Europe, China and Canada.

Toyota made a vast recall of its classic Highlander hybrid and Highlander model with the recall of 50,000 units all which belong to 2014 model year. The problem was malfunction in software that prevented the vehicle to calculate the size of front row passenger, crucial to determine whether to fire air bags or not. The discovery cracked out of the software malfunction is the small size of the passenger, which prevented the firing of airbags at lower speed needed for big built passenger. According to Toyota, most of the affected 45,287 vehicles were sold in US, 3,400 pieces were rolled out in Canada, and the remaining in Europe and Mexico. A spokesperson for South African division of Toyota, Mary Willemse said, the recall confirmation is not subjected to vehicles in South Africa.

The Toyota brand is immense all over the globe, the company has called for a major recall and has catered to potential defects of all kind, like corrosion in adverse winters, airbags and braking technology defects.
