Toyota upcoming cars in India

No matter in what segment they are competing, Toyota has always delivered quality products. The Innova has been a very successful people carrier for the manufacturer and even after so many years when various factors have driven up the costs, it continues to sell in good numbers. The Etios twins have been doing pretty good numbers in the market as well. They keep introducing various special editions based on the Etios and Etios Liva hatchback to give people something exclusive to pick. The Toyota Fortuner has been doing impressive numbers as well in the Indian market and now they are planning to further boost the numbers.

They are planning to introduce the Fortuner with a 2.5 litre engine option. While the Fortuner 3.0 has been a popular product, many people were repelled by its high price. The 2.5 litre option will target such customers. It will be more efficient due to the reduced engine capacity. Expect power output to be around 130-140 bhp. Expect this vehicle to enter our market near the end of this year.

The new Toyota Corolla was showcased at the Auto Expo 2014 and launched soon after. It is quite an impressive vehicle but there is a segment Toyota has skipped. They don’t have any car to fill in the gap between the Etios sedan and the Toyota Corolla. To take the spot between these two, they might introduce the Toyota Vios sedan in our market. This sedan is already being sold in many other markets and would be a strong rival to the popular Honda City and Hyundai Verna. We recently saw Honda offer a diesel engine on the Honda City which has boosted its sales northwards and a right diesel sedan from Toyota might do the same for them.

The compact SUV segment is also very hot at the moment. Most of the manufacturers are preparing and testing their vehicles for this segment while Ford is enjoying the sales of EcoSport. While Fortuner is a premium product, there is no vehicle to go against the cars like Renault Duster. Toyota might bring in the Rush as an answer. It is an urban SUB that is already being sold in the Malaysian market. It hasn’t got very impressive looks on the front but rest of the car looks like a scaled down Fortuner which isn’t a bad thing at all.

While currently it is being sold with a petrol engine only, its introduction in India might be accompanied with the addition of a diesel engine. A low cost MPV might also make it to the Indian market. This MPV is called the Toyota Avanza and while the Innova is in the market at a higher price point, this will compete in the sub 10 lakh bracket. It will face competition from the Suzuki Ertiga and upcoming Mobilio MPV. It is also being sold in some markets with the same 1.5 litre petrol engine as rush. They will also have to bring in a diesel engine with this model to stack up impressive numbers.
