The Toyota Innova had been the most loved MPV model in India ever since it launched in this country before it got replaced with the new generation Innova Crysta in May this year. The new Toyota Innova Crysta is the second generation model of the globally acclaimed Innova MPV and it has come in an all improved and more dashing avatar, making the model the best ever Innova. Although more expensive than its predecessor and out of the markets where the large capacity diesel ban prevails like Delhi and Kerala, the all new Innova Crysta has become a massive hit in India as was expected.
While the new bolder and all better Toyota Innova Crysta was widely expected to a great success and a new bestseller for Toyota Kirloskar Motor India, some thought that being more expensive, this new model might not be as popular as its former elegant and comparatively more affordable Innova model, as India is a price sensitive market. Proving all fears wrong, the all new Innova Crysta has become a great selling vehicle reclaiming its title of the bestselling MPV model in India.
As per the latest reports, Toyota Kirloskar Motor India has managed to sell 7,259 units of the new generation Innova Crysta in its launch month that is May 2016. This resulted in a huge 44 percent sales growth in the Innova’s sales in India as compared against the model’s sales in May last year.
The Innova Crysta’s sales in May 2016 have also resulted in a massive month-on-month sales growth of the MPV by as much as 70 percent, as the previous generation Toyota Innova sold just 4,269 units in the month of April this year before the all new Innova Crysta came into the picture. This has ensured that the Innova remains the best loved and best selling MPV model in India, as the new Crysta has snatched back its title of ‘best selling MPV’ in India from the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga compact MPV.
In just over a month’s time now, Toyota India has already received more than 20,000 bookings for the new Innova Crysta. Despite being expensive, the Japanese car maker is also witnessing a whole lot of bookings for the top of the range Toyota Innova Crysta 2.8 ZX AT model that carries the price tag of Rs. 20.78 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The top-end model of the Crysta packs in a new 2.8L GD turbocharged diesel mill mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission, while the base model is tagged at Rs. 13.84 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The lower variants get powered by 2.4L turbocharged diesel motor coupled to a 5 speed manual transmission.
It is really impressive that the new Innova Crysta is fetching such great sales figures despite being not available in some important markets like Delhi NCR and Kerala due to the diesel ban. Toyota will be introducing the petrol version of the Innova Crysta that will probably pack in a 2.7L VVT-i petrol engine equipped with a 6 speed automatic transmission.
