Toyota has been designing and selling India’s most appreciated and bought sedans and multi utility cars which have created a successful niche despite their premium price. In a market crowded with small cars which are chiefly bought by its large middle class, Toyota faced little competition in early stages due to limited car models available in the 15 – 20 lakh price categories. Keeping with its image as manufacturer of high end utility vehicles, Toyota is going to launch the Rush SUV in both petrol and diesel variants. Toyota’s earlier Innova model has ruled the market for nearly five years is slowly its hold which can be regained by the Toyota Rush. This car’s trendy interiors are covered in chintz with gear knobs dressed in leather and chrome. Its high tech audio system is comprised of CD and MP3 player which can be enjoyed with six speakers controllable from audio consoles on steering wheel.
This car has had a successful stint in Malaysia where it was launched in 2012. Toyota will launch this car in India to compete with existing SUV’s in this category namely Mahindra XUV500 and models from Renault, Ford etc. The Indian variant of Toyota Rush will be presented with several changes in its exteriors and interiors to suit local sensibilities and cost consciousness. The Toyota Rush will be powered with 1495 cc engine to provide improved fuel economy. Targeted at people who drive long distances on a regular basis the Toyota Rush’s fuel tank has a capacity of 50 liters and a tight turning radius of 5.2 meters. Its powerful fuel efficient engine is capable of providing 108 bhp and impressive 14.8 km per liter at ground clearance of 4005 mm. To manage traffic on India’s crowded city roads this car will be smaller in size in comparison to its Indonesian counterpart. The Toyota Rush had been earlier sold in Japan as Daihatsu Terios which is a subsidiary of Toyota Japan. For Indonesia’s markets the Daihatsu Terios was slightly modified and rebranded as Toyota Rush.
According to company sources the Toyota Rush will be tested on Indian roads during October –November 2013 and will be sold towards beginning of 2014. The smaller second generation Indian version of Toyota Rush SUV is being kept within 4 meters to take advantage of government excise concessions. This excise concession will help Toyota to sell the car at a lesser price so it can be positioned below Fortuner model. The Toyota Rush will be able to comfortably seat five adults due to compact design and wheelbase of 2580 mm. Its larger wheelbase variant available in international markets is 4.41 meters in length and can comfortably seat seven adults. Passenger safety on both front and rear seats has been ensured by combination of disc and drum brakes, coupled with ABS and EBD for better force distribution. The Toyota Rush has qualities benefitting a competent sports utility vehicle from Toyota’s stables to challenge existing cars in this category. Though the car has not yet been launched in India expectations among dealers and customers are high about its performance.
