Made in India Toyota Etios to be used as cabs in Indonesia as supply of Vios and Limo faces constraints

The India made Toyota Etios is now going to be used as cabs in the market of Indonesia. The Japanese car giant has not yet officially introduced the made in India Etios sedan in the car market of Indonesia. However, the car maker’s Indonesian subsidiary, PT Toyota Astra Motors has already imported the made in India Toyota Etios to be doing the rounds as city cabs in the roads of Surabaya.

An automotive journal of Indonesia reported that Toyota Astra Motors’ GM for the company’s corporate planning and public relations revealed to the media that as India is the manufacturing base for the Toyota Etios sedan, the vehicles can be easily brought over to Indonesia to fill in the orders without any limitation. The Etios sedan is going to be sold to the fleet operators in the car market of Indonesia.

Previously, there had been reports that one of biggest fleet operators in the Indonesian market called the Blue Bird group was not interested in taking in the Etios sedan because the company thought that the car is too small to serve as a taxi. The Blue Bird group has reportedly said that the company will opt to go for the Toyota Limo and the Nissan Almera instead of the smaller Etios sedan.

Toyota Limo is a lower specification variant of the essentially same Toyota Vios and also the Toyota Corolla Altis. The Limo sedan is actually particularly manufactured and rebadged for this Blue Bird group fleet operator.

It is not certain as to why Toyota Astra Motors is so urgently going to use the Toyota Etios as a city cab. It is thought that the increasing popularity and the limited production and as a result scarce availability of the Toyota Limo might has prompted forced Toyota Astra Motors in Indonesia to urgently consider the Etios sedan as another taxi representative in the nation’s fleet market.

While, the Toyota Etios sedan is not officially launched in the Indonesian car market as well, the hatchback counterpart of the car that is known as the Etios Liva in the Indian car market is currently offered for sale in the Indonesian car market named as the Toyota Valco.

Back in the car market of India, the refreshed versions of the Toyota Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback are already offered for sale. With enhanced features and more safety measures, the refreshed Etios and Etios Liva are expected to boost Toyota’s sale in the slumped market condition of the Indian auto industry.

Toyota is also planning big for the Indian market and intends to showcase to new cars at the upcoming 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Toyota is said to be unveiling the all new 2014 Corolla Altis at the Indian Expo. Moreover, the Japanese car major is also going to unveil the Etios Cross at the Expo in order to grab market share in the growing crossover segment of the Indian auto industry.
