Toyota recalls Innova

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is the reputed auto division of Japan based firm Toyota Motor Corp. TKM has launched a string of posh models in India such as Corolla, Camry, Prius, Etios and Etios Liva. Apart from the mentioned cars, one model that stands out and visible in every nook and corner of India is Innova multipurpose vehicle.

The company launched the new Innova towards the end of 2013, the car has always been in huge demand, but TKM has not been in good books with the car lately, the reason being massive recalls. The company recently announced of its aim to recall 44,989 pieces of Innova, and the products recalled were those manufactured from Feb 2005 to December 2008. The issue was a faulty cable on steering. TKM in a statement said that the error was directed to the defect in spiral cable, fitted on steering.

The cause for the spiral cable to become defective is the constant heating up of airbag warming lamp on instrument cluster. The constant increase in temperature could have deactivated the airbag in driver’s compartment, said TKM in a statement; the company also announced that it is in the process of fixing the defects, with replacement components. Once the replacement equipments are available, the company will contact the customers.

A spiral cable defect on steering caused by the heating up of airbag warning lamp is a serious issue. Toyota will repair the defects at absolutely no cost, and the process will take an hour. The company was busy in recalls lately, and a defective Innova car is hence not the first recall. Toyota has recalled about 6.39 million cars and more than 25 models had to be corrected. The problems encountered by these vehicles are related to non-functioning of windshield wiper motors, engine starters, seat rails and cable on steering.

The last time a Toyota model was recalled was in 2012 October, the company recalled 7.43 million units of Corolla, Yaris and other models to fix non- operational power window switch issues.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has introduced premium cars into the Indian market; Innova is among its blockbuster hits. It is the perfect family car that can easily accommodate seven to eight occupants. Despite its grand popular status the company has recalled about 44,989 Innova cars, due to a spiral cable defect on steering. Those who own 2005 to 2008 models of Innova can place their trust on the company. Toyota is keen to put customers first with its initiative to fix the defect at no cost, and the issue will be fixed in an hour.

Innova is packed with style, comfort and technology, and has brought families closer. The car is a trigger for the cut-throat competition that exists in multipurpose market today. Maruti Suzuki is set to launch XA Alpha and Honda will unveil its new Mobilio MPV piece, to fight the fierce battle with Innova.
