Toyota is keen to retain its position as topmost automaker in the world and has therefore presented a redesigned version of its Camry model which is America’s most popular car at recently held New York’s Auto Show 2014. During presentation of this model Toyota’s spokesperson stated that though Camry meets customers’ requirements for comfort and value, addition of style and performance increases its overall appeal for citizens of America. The Camry has been popular since launch nearly two decades ago and has won several awards for versatility and performance in mid sized segment of passenger cars. Though it has remained an undisputed leader for several years it is now tough facing competition from new entrants into market like Honda Accord and latest version of Ford Fusion.
Toyota has a long been a favorite of people around the world due to its unmatched engineering capabilities though its body design has undergone changes in past several years. The current version has a sporty look with new suspension system which is more responsive and can be handled better across city and highway traffic. Body of new Camry is around two inches longer than existing variant and is also half inch wider with rounded exterior shell. The interiors of this model have now been improved with subtle changes to give it a more refined designer looks through upholstering in high grade fabric. According to Toyota, its engine and mechanism have been restructured to reduce exterior noise and interiors have been reinsulated with sound-proof materials to make cabin more silent.
To increase stiffness and aerodynamics of its structure the body has been remodeled and changes have been made to steering and brakes for better performance and grip. The new Camry will be more performance oriented and has been rechristened as Camry XSE to depict it as a model suited to meet needs of Generation NeXT therefore it has been declared by Toyota as its most sportiest Camry model till date. Exterior changes include remodeled unique grill with honeycomb design split into three sections and outlined in chrome. Fog lights are built into arc like curves on either side of lower grille with LED daytime running lights.
The car will provide customers with previous choice of fuel options comprising four and six cylinder petrol powertrains and also a hybrid variant. Latest Camry has around 2000 new body parts to deliver a powerful performance through two stage brake booster and recalibrated power steering. Changes to its interiors comprise of redesigned instrument cluster and center stack along with new TFT display and wireless charging facility through central console. The redesigned front fascia also includes new headlamp cluster with creased hood which gives it an edgier appearance when compared to its predecessor. According to Toyota’s spokesperson the Camry had been stripped to the bone ie its chassis and built it up from ground up. The redesigned version is expected to help Camry meet competition from varied models released recently which are eating into its market. However market watchers say that change in styling alone will not help Camry beat competition and it will need to improve on performance level too to attract new customers.
