The Toyota Camry is the bestselling car in the US car market, but owing to the advent of new dazzling cars, its position was at stake. Ever since, the iconic Camry launched for the first time it became an embodiment of superior reliability, practicality and value for money. However, flashy style was never a part of its package. This made the 2014 Camry an incredibly capable but very boring vehicle. Keeping the young and trendy buyers in mind, Toyota thus set to work on the new 2015 Camry that was unveiled at the 2014 New York Auto Show. Let us put the two models of the Camry to see what Toyota has done to offer a better engaging sedan.
Exterior appeal
The consumers have always preferred the 2014 Camry despite its lacking visual appeal. However, competitors such as Hyundai, Ford and Honda offered great stylish models that made the 2015 Camry’s arrival necessary. The outdated angular design of the 2014 model has been replaced by the curvier shape of the 2015 Camry, which also seem to have taken some design cues from the new Corolla and the Avalon. The higher variants of the 2015 Camry also get a huge front grille that is similar to the Lexus luxury brand from Toyota. The 2015 Camry is thus much more soothing to the eyes; however Toyota could have done even a lot more.
Interior styling & features
The interior design of the new Camry is less drastic as compared to the outside. The 2015 model gets a new 4.2 inch touch screen and new Optitron gauges on higher model trims models, while a storage bin in the center console doubles up as a wireless smartphone charging dock. The entire cabin gets a sportier appeal owing to the satin chrome trimming and French stitching (optional). Nothing else changes from the 2014 model, but the changes are very worthy.
Engines and Performance
While the new 2015 Camry has definitely more attractive with a cool visual appeal, under the hood it is the very same 2014 model. The same 2.5 liter and the 3.5 liter V6 engines are on offer, which churn out 178hp of power and 170 pound-feet of torque, and 268hp of power and 248 lb-ft of torque respectively. Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Camry Hybrid is also on offer with the same carryover 2.5 liter Atkinson-cycle electric motor powered by a nickel battery, with a total power of 200hp. Thus, the 2015 Camry does not offer any better performance. However, Toyota claims that the new model has sturdier chassis and tweaked steering. The Japanese auto leader has also added the XSE model to the line-up to spruce up the sporty quotient of the sedan’s overall performance.
Price
Toyota is yet to announce the pricing for the 2015 Camry, but it is not expected to increase much. On the whole the very competent Toyota Camry has become all the better with its 2015 model.
