Toyota Etios Cross is a superior threat to VW Cross Polo

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched the much awaited Etios Cross in India. The Etios Cross is the Japanese car maker’s representative somewhere in between the hatchback-crossover and compact crossover segments. Though this segment is not so popular in India yet, it is not an alien concept as well as the market is already familiar with the Skoda Fabia Scout and the Volkswagen Crossover Polo. Volkswagen tried in vain to impress the Indian audience by transforming its Polo hatch into the Cross Polo, and now Toyota has the same with the Etios Cross as it is actually a complete makeover version of the Etios Liva hatchback. However, the Toyota Etios Cross seems to be a much superior challenge to the VW Cross Polo.

Toyota Etios Crossover was first unveiled in India at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and has now joined the Etios family. However, it looks completely different than the rather under-styled Etios sedan and Liva hatch. The most remarkable thing about the Etios Cross is its unique and bold design language that is sure to make this vehicle stand out in crowd.

The Liva has been completely transformed in a new aggressive and head turning looking Etios Cross with the ingenuity of the Japanese car major. The car gets a boldly styled front grille with a bull bar and the company logo flashing in the middle. The exclusive all round body cladding in matte black with silver inserts have done a brilliant job in making the car look muscular. The vehicle also gets skid plates, silver colored roof rails, spoiler and diamond cut dual toned 15 inch alloy wheels to give it a complete tough, no-nonsense look. The body colored ORVMs with integrated turn indicators enhances the overall look. The rest of the car remains the same as the Liva, but can’t be recognized as the hatchback anymore. The Etios Cross’ ground clearance has increased by 4mm as against Liva, owing to its 10 spokes large 15 inch alloy wheels.

The cabin is also been greatly improved by Toyota with classy piano black dashboard and premium materials. The car gets ‘Etios Cross’ embossed car seats, 2-DIN stereo system with Bluetooth, leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls dual airbags, ABS with EBD.

Toyota Etios Crossover is offered in 3 engine options, 1.2 liter and 1.5 liter petrol engines and a 1.4L D-4D diesel engine, all of which are mated to 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Etios Cross offers great mileage as well. Its 1.2 liter and 1.5 liter petrol mills offer 17.71 and 16.78 km per liter respectively, while the 1.4 liter diesel motor offers the mileage of 23.59kmpl.

Toyota Etios Cross has a price range of Rs. 5.76 to Rs. 7.49 lakhs. The car is a clear winner over the Volkswagen Cross Polo, while its real competition is yet to come from the upcoming Fiat Avventura. By the looks of it, the Toyota Etios Cross seems to be a major volume drawer from TKM.
