The sports utility vehicles market in India has heated up with exciting models in the market and news of several more in pipeline to be launched by domestic and international automakers. The Ford Ecosport, India’s most popular compact crossover till date now has a waiting list of more than six months while other brands like Renault Duster, Hyundai SantaFe and Toyota Innova have a strong demand. Now Toyota’s fans are eagerly awaiting the launch of Etios Cross which will be a compact crossover utility vehicle which was shown at Auto Expo 2014 at Delhi. This vehicle is expected to give strong competition to Ecosport and Duster both of which are in same price range of 6 – 8 lakhs and are also in similar compact SUV design category.
Engine Specifications – The rugged Ford Ecosport is available with diesel and petrol fuel options in which petrol engines have two capacities namely 1.5 liter and 1.0 liter power trains with turbo chargers along with1.5 liter diesel power train. While petrol engine has only manual transmission, diesel engine has both manual and automatic transmission.
The Etios Cross is available with two petrol and two diesel engine options among which petrol’s base trim “G” has 1.2 liter 16V DOHC type engine with 80 PS power and “V” trims has 1.5 liter 16V DOHC engine with 90 PS of power and torque of 104 Nm. The Etios Cross’s both diesel power trains have same 1.4 liter diesel engine with 4 cylinder mechanism which has output of 68 PS and torque of 170 Nm.
Design Details: The Ford Ecosport has powerful and tough exterior based on Ford’s design philosophy and can comfortably seat five passengers. Black underbody cladding, muscular wheel arches, wide attractive oval grille design with chrome outline and eye shaped angular headlights enhance rugged image. Protruding fog lamps, body colored ORVMS with indicators and chrome roof rails with raised groves on shoulder complement its image.
Toyota Etios Cross has designer interiors with comfortable fabric seats and air-filter to adjust environment in air-conditioned car. The car has leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and expensive fabric seats, storage spaces like cup holders followed by storage pockets behind front seats. The Etios Cross has similar black underbody cladding as the Ecosport and roof rails along with bumper guard to complete crossover image. Prominent headlights cluster has halogen lamps on hood itself and bright fog lamps on black bumper. Other features include body colored ORVM’s with indicators with rain sensing wipers and defogger along with 15 inch radial tyres.
Safety and Suspension Features –Ford’s EcoSport compact crossover has twin airbags, ABS, electronic brake assist, rear parking sensors, along with electronic stability system and Hill Assist to meet international norms of safety. It also has engine immobilizer, power windows, central locking facility and seat belts while suspension system consists of independent McPherson struts, coil springs and anti-roll bar.
Etios Cross will have essential safety features of dual airbags, ABS, engine immobilizer, parking brake, keyless entry and seatbelts for all passengers. Along with twin power of disc and drum brakes the car has McPherson struts suspension system.
