New Toyota Corolla – The tenth generation Corolla

Toyota, one of the largest car manufacturers, makes cars which are, undoubtedly, reliable, durable and efficient but for some reason Toyota did not manage to get a fair share of the Indian car market. There were times when the Toyota Camry and Toyota Corolla were seen as expensive luxurious sedans which had that factor to turn heads. But, as time passed, Toyota lost its charm. I don’t mean to say that they are making useless cars but they are just not fun to drive or beautifully designed. So, to get back into the game Toyota has introduced the tenth generation of its popular car- Toyota Corolla.

The new Toyota Corolla has been designed from scratch in order to get rid of the old design profile of the car. The designers at Toyota have managed to do a good job here. The new all LED headlamps, which are the first in its segment, looks spectacular. The chrome front grille adds to the character of the new Toyota Corolla. The tail lamps will allow you to recognize that it’s a Corolla but they seem to be right in place. The nicely carved wheel arches gives the car an appealing side view. Overall, I am pretty impressed with the new looks of the new Toyota Corolla.

The interiors of the new Toyota Corolla are fresh. You will not get to see the regular and common dashboard design which bulges or protrudes out like a huge chunk of land. Here, the dashboard is flat. It is not the funkiest available out in the market but it definitely looks fresh. The instrument cluster, AC vents, music system, etc. everything seems to be placed just fine. The two tone interior clothing looks luxurious and airier. The new Toyota Corolla has got slightly more space in the cabin than its predecessor.

The new Toyota Corolla is available in two engine options- a 1.8 litre petrol engine which produces a max power output of 138bhp and 17.5kgm of max torque and a 1.4 litre diesel engine which churns out a total of 87bhp of power and a peak torque of 20.9kgm. Both the engines does their jobs as you’d expect them to do. While the diesel variant seems to be underpowered despite having Variable Valve Technology used. As a result, there is a slight turbo lag when you are driving under 2000 rpm range.

The ride quality of the new Toyota Corolla is very comfortable. The new stiffer chassis and the suspensions really absorbs all the jerks and allows the car to tackle a corner with greater confidence. The brakes are very effective and it coming to a stop even from high speeds is not a problem for this car. The new Toyota Corolla is priced in a range of Rs 13.5 to 18 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) and offers much better package than the outgoing model. However, there are still better rivals in the market who have features and techs and gizmos of their own to lure you in. But I think Toyota has got nothing to worry about, they have got a good product here.
