Toyota Etios Cross – A new cross breed

Toyota has been in the business for a very long time now and everybody knows that Toyota is not a brand known for making beautiful looking cars. The Toyota Etios and Toyota Etios Liva, which were launched earlier, were not an exception. Although, they looked pretty decent but the company’s objective of hitting the young population of India with its Etios did not work well. So, in order to woo customers Toyota has presented us with a new cross breed, a cross over- the new Toyota Etios Cross.

Well, the region where the Etios Cross looks different from the Etios twins is mostly the exterior of the car. The Etios Cross has some new tweaks and mods to suit its name. The new black body cladding all around the bottom of the Etios Cross really enhances the muscularity of the cross over. I did not expect it to look good but it surprised me. The addition of roof rails would make you feel to go on an adventurous trip. All these changes have, obviously, increased the dimensions of the car. The rear end of the car has got a spoiler and at the trunk gate you will see the Etios Cross badge. If you get rid of all these new additions to the car, then the Etios Cross would transform into an Etios Liva.

The interiors of the Etios Cross are similar to the Etios Liva. You wouldn’t notice any drastic changes here. The centre console still exists. I do not know why Toyota did not get rid of this thing and just stick to the traditional position of the console. It is difficult for the driver to check on the information. The quality of the materials used has been improved and the dash and seats feels much nicer. Space wouldn’t be a problem in the Etios Cross as there is enough space inside the cabin for both the front and rear passengers.

The Etios Cross is available in three engine options- 2 petrol and 1 diesel. There is a 1.2 litre, 4 cylinder petrol engine which produces a max power of 80PS and 104Nm of peak torque. The other petrol engine is a 1.5 litre unit which produces 90PS of power and 132Nm of peak torque. Then there is the diesel engine which is a 1.4 litre unit which churns out a max power of only 68PS at 3800 rpm and 170Nm of torque between 1800-2400 rpm. All the three engines gives out good performance and mileage but the most popular is the diesel engine which gives a claimed mileage of 23kpl!

The Etios Cross is a new dish on the menu for the youths. Toyota has done everything to attract customers here. Priced at Rs 6 to 9 lacs, Etios Cross could prove to be car you would love. And there is the Toyota service and 3 year standard warranty which comes along with the Cross. If you ignore some of the faults of the car, which I think is doable, then the Etios Cross wouldn’t be a problem for you!
