Toyota Fuel Cell vehicle is still known as the FCV and has been announced by the company to launch in the U.S. during the summer next year. However the all green hydrogen car will be launched in Toyota’s home market Japan much earlier than the U.S launch. Apart from revealing the exterior of the FCV’s production model, Toyota has also announced that in Japan it will cost about 7 million yen, while the U.S pricing has not yet been announced.

The Fuel Cell technology has been researched on for over a decade now by several global car makers including Toyota, however the absence of hydrogen fueling stations and excessively high production costs had made the vehicle impractical until recently. Toyota says that this is the ultimate green vehicle, as the FCVs use an electric powertrain powered by chemical reaction between compressed hydrogen and natural oxygen. The car emits only pure water vapor making it zero emissions vehicle.

Thus, the FCV is very much welcome in countries with strict emission laws and preference for zero emission vehicles. Hyundai has gone ahead of the other auto makers in terms of launching a mass produced FCV in the form of the Hydrogen powered Tucson, and now its Toyota’s tern.

Toyota said that unlike battery driven EVs, the fuel cell vehicles use compressed hydrogen which negates the range limitation and the disadvantage of long battery charging time. The Toyota FCV will have a massive range of around 430 miles on full tank and can be refueled in around just 3 minutes, thus making its hassle free and super convenient.

Toyota’s FCV is a brilliantly design funky compact sedan, and the production model looked almost exactly the same as its concept model that first debuted before the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show last November. The FCV compact sedan looks very futuristic along with a unique water droplet shape that stresses on its pre water emission. It has a quirky front face with wide gill shapes air vents, while the futuristic angled rear design further makes it a thing to behold.

The new Toyota FCV design language is certainly very unique and futuristic and nothing else in the market today looks like it. This superbly unique design of the Toyota FCV would be one of its primary selling points.

If Toyota launches the FCV before anymore car maker in the market next year, then it will be the first mass produced fuel cell vehicle for sale in the market, as the currently available Hyundai Tucson FCV is a lease only model. The Toyota FCV’s market price is expected to be reduced considerably over the next few years time. Post the FCV’s market launch Toyota is expected to make a new feat in the all green vehicle market.
