Toyota recently spoke of its aim to introduce a hydrogen powered vehicle in 2015. The move came in response to the offering of a robust hydrogen powered electric vehicle by Tesla Motors. Hydrogen fuel cell is a big topic of consideration in the market; firms all over the word are working on the beneficial eco-friendly aspects of this technology. The car emits only water vapour which does not harm at all whatsoever. The first hydrogen fuel vehicle will be a sedan 2015 make that will cost $70,000 and the first nation to receive it is Japan.
The upcoming hydrogen fuel car will be engineered to move at 430 mile and the time to refuel the vehicle is three minutes. Sources say the system of quick refuel is more practical and reliable than gas powered vehicles and conventional batteries. Once the vehicle reaches Japan it will launch in other attractive auto destinations of North America and Europe. In America, California is the first destination of choice, because of the public’s enthusiasm in willing to explore new innovative products. The state has already set up many hydrogen fuel stations. Toyota’s aim with hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is to bring in a product that portrays a typical high-tech image and one that offers great convenience.
Toyota has formulated a design plan of the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle; the design is finalized after the introduction of FCV concept. The company has not said anything about the price of the vehicle. The base Tesla S model costs $60,000 and is packed with the requirements of efficient moving equipped with all fuel costs. Toyota is certain that it has got the technology in the bag and has worked out a number of essential issues such as minimal environmental impact, greater distance coverage and quicker fuelling period.
The car will be available to the public in its fully furnished state by 2015, and the reliability factor is greater than Tesla Supercharger than runs on electric current. To cover a distance of 300 miles the charging time is over an hour, hydrogen fuel cell car on the other hand takes on four minutes to pump fuel. The principle behind the working of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is the hydrogen in the tank mixes with oxygen in the car. The reaction is electro chemical that enables the car to manoeuvre for more than 400 miles. The emission is only water vapour which is a boon to maintain the clean and green stature of the environment.
Toyota will launch the hydrogen fuel car in April next car, although the technology sounds splendid and feasible, there are complications to look into. The main issue lies in the storage of hydrogen gas, it has to be preserved at high pressure. The initial cost factor is greater than usual gas, and competency is a concern as well. Sources say Toyota will have to gain the infrastructure skills of Tesla in terms of setting up a fuel station to offer solar power charges in rest shops, parking areas and houses.
Toyota’s goal to launch its first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle next year sounds interesting. It will be interesting to observe how far the technology moves.
