Japanese car major, Toyota is all prepared to expand its footprint in the Indian car market, especially in the premium car segment with the introduction of its luxury brand, Lexus. It is already known that Toyota expressed its decision to focus more on the premium cars in the Indian market, while on the other hand the Indian premium car market is booming very fast to the delight of the luxury car majors operating in the country. Lexus is the highly popular luxury brand from Toyota in the global markets, but is still not available in India.
The Japanese car major is all set to boost its sales and impress the Indian premium car buyers by launching its Lexus luxury car brand in India as well. Toyota’s Indian presence in the joint venture Toyota Kirloskar Motor is expected to venture into the full fledged Indian premium car segment with its Lexus by next year.
To begin with, the Lexus luxury brand will be introduce to India with the two models, namely the ES luxury sports sedan and the RX luxury crossover model that will be offered for sale through the authorized Toyota dealership outlets across India. Both these models from the Lexus brand will be placed above the Toyota Camry Altis premium sedan which is currently sold as the range topping premium product in Toyota’s Indian portfolio.
As per the reports, the Japanese car major is expected to launch its premium Lexus brand in the Indian car market within the first half of 2016. Toyota Kirloskar Motor India is expected to introduce both the ES and the RX models from the luxury brand in India by showcasing then at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo that will be held in the month of February. Toyota India is contemplating introducing the Lexus brand in the country as fully imported and the vehicle models under this brand will be brought to India through the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route.
It has been also reported that Toyota Kirloskar Motor is contemplating on a separate assembly line setup that will be exclusively taking care of the Lexus brand products. The upcoming Lexus assembly line would be setup within Toyota Kirloskar’s twin production facilities based in Karnataka.
In the global car markets, the Lexus ES sedan and Lexus RX crossover are offered with a wide range of engine choices. However, for the Indian market the Japanese car major is expected to offer both the Lexus models with only a single engine choice, while later based on demands more motor options could be introduced. Both these luxury models get optional petrol or hybrid engine choices.
Post its launch in the Indian car market, the Lexus brand will be rivaling the other global luxury car giants which are already established in India such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW. The Lexus models’ pricing in India is expected to be kept at par with the German luxury auto giant trio’s.
