Toyota and Ford have collaborated to work on hybrid models for SUV’s and also trucks, but now the partnership has ended. Both firms have agreed to work individually and penetrate deeper into hybrid car operations.  The agreement of both firms to work on hybrid vehicles started 2 years back, and interestingly the CEO of the two firms met accidentally in the airport. The two engineers established friendly conversations and even decided to study the laboratory work carried out by each other.

Raj Nair who heads the production unit stated that the two firms should concentrate on working on the latest developments in hybrid technology and incorporate it into cars. Ford is keen to create hybrid SUV’s and trucks within ten years. Toyota has to ponder about certain concern when working on hybrid technology with trucks, the gas electricity combination for rear wheel drive trucks would be tough, the power used is insufficient for bigger vehicles and is ideal for cars which is used to transmit energy to front wheel drive cars.

The work on hybrid vehicles is still in initial stages, Toyota has built a powerful hybrid car called Prius which was showcased at the prestigious auto expo, and the launch of Prius has created a legendary image for Toyota. The new Prius is priced at Rs 27-29 lakhs. The Prius is recognized for its outstanding fuel economy and low carbon dioxide emissions.  The car is designed to the standard of the technology used the exteriors are splashed with artistically designed front grille, refreshed bumpers, new LED lamps and alloy wheels.

Prius is fitted with super efficient engines of 1.8 liter petrol and 650 volt electric engine. The fuel and electric engine churn impressive power output of 100 kw. The petrol motor releases 142Nm highest torque and the electric motor churns 207Nm highest torque. A team of brilliant engineers have incorporated ground breaking technology into the car called Hybrid synergy drive where the driver can choose from three drive modes. The hybrid synergy drive technology increases acceleration, torque, power and fuel efficiency and the best part is the carbon dioxide levels are lowered and mileage is increased to 35%.

Toyota has managed to create an exemplary hybrid car using advanced electrical and chemical engineering technology. In India this car will be highly beneficial and people can travel long distances with ease. The main purpose for hybrid cars is to lower the harsh environmental impacts which have led to health disorders. Hybrid cars will work remarkably in India where the pollution levels have increased to alarming rates. Toyota and Ford have decided to work on this technology independently. It would be interesting to note the advancements of this technology in the near future.

The engine efficiency and features offered by Prius makes this an ideal luxury car to own.
