Toyota encountered dismal sales in Fillipino market during the Asian Financial Crises in the 1997 period. This resulted in the public being forced to make strong purchases at a time when the overall profits sales reduced drastically from 162,056 pieces during the 1996 period to as low as 144,221 pieces in 1997. The figures reduced to a larger extent in 1998 and 1999 at 80,193 and 74,407 pieces respectively.
The company struggled with low profits for more than ten years, and in the period of 2010, the outcome was indeed decent compared to years ago at168,490 pieces.
