The third generation of Toyota Vios sedan car version was launched grandly during Thailand’s International Motor Show in 2013 with noticeable changes from its earlier version. Toyota intends to retain this model without any changes for a global launch since its length and height have already been increased. The straight line design will improve speed due to better air resistance. Despite earlier market reports that Toyota may not launch this car in India due to its premium pricing, the company presently has firm plans to introduce the Vios model during 2014.
Branded as a superior sedan with streamlined body frame, Toyota will set this model between Corolla and Etios models to capture greater market share of this premium market. The Vios will be powered by a 4 cylinder 1.5 diesel engine with 141 Nm of torque. Presently sold in Malaysia at Malaysian Ringgits 73,200 it is likely to be priced in India between 7 – 10 lakhs.
The mid-range sedan car market in India is presently dominated by Hyundai, Skoda and Honda and multi-utility vehicles by Mahindra and Mahindra. The Toyota Vios will be able to comfortably seat five adults with wide legroom and seat belts for rear passengers. Its carved headlamps have been artistically placed to avoid use of reflectors. To give its interiors a more luxurious feel, engineers have designed the cabin cleverly to make it roomier and fitted it with modern audio technology and foldable rear seats. Its curved rear side has created significant space in the boot section.
Along with standard safety features of ABS and EBD the Toyota Vios is also expected to have 15 inch alloy wheels. The car’s audio system will be similar to Toyota’s TRD Sportivo model with 6 speakers and steering mounted audio controls. To grab instant customer attention the car makers have installed a stylishly carved grille with frontal spoilers which makes people take a second look at this trendy car. An exciting feature of its frontal exterior is a V shaped mouth with a gaping appearance.
The Toyota Vios’ high ground clearance which has been teamed up with wide wheelbase is ideal for Indian roads. Driving this car becomes more pleasurable since the engine comes with two options of either 5 speed manual or automatic gearbox. Both the manual and automatic transmission variants are likely to attract status seeking younger generation who love to own luxury items.
The dynamic engine will be complimented with parking sensors and rear defogging wiper suitable for rainy drives. This car is likely to be available in seven exterior color variants with features designed to suit the adage “luxury-sports car. The Toyota Vios will be long with an overall length of 4410 mm thereby fulfilling claims of larger boot and leg space. This car is a worthy purchase for both fuel and cost conscious customers as it has aesthetic looks, is long lasting and is among most fuel efficient cars in this category. Toyota’s marketing team realizes that it has a winner in this model as it has garnered lot of interest among car enthusiasts in India.
