Japanese automaker Toyota unveiled the 2013 Toyota Vios at the 2013 Bangkok International Motor Show in March in Thailand. The third generation Toyota Vios is presently sold in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. This sedan has received several style modifications as compared to the outgoing model. Its style and design cues seem to be inspired from the new Toyota Corolla, which appears sporty and dynamic. The interiors as well as the exteriors also sport a refreshing look with some significant changes. The 2014 Toyota Vios has been designed as a global model and features enhanced length and height, which subsequently boosts the cabin space.
The front of the Vios is decked up with a wide chrome grille that is seen extending right up to the headlamps, seen in angular shape. The front bumper looks quite sporty and also has fog lamps apart from optionally provided LED daytime running lights. The Vios’s side profile is adorned with crisp lines that run across its exteriors. The rear section of the Vios is equipped with a mighty set of attractive tail lamps integrated with chrome garnishing. The overall styling and design results in a low drag coefficient of an impressive 0.28. This enhances air resistance, fuel efficiency, ride comfort and straight line stability. The interiors come with an option of an all-black or a black and beige dual theme.
The Toyota Liva and Etios are the only two offerings from the Toyota stable in the bloodthirsty mid-size segment in the Indian market and there is certainly enough room for a new offering between the Corolla Altis and the Etios sedan. Indeed, this room can be effortlessly taken the Vios. For all those who are not aware, the Vios is a sedan edition of the Yaris hatch.
In India, the upper-end midsize segment has remained stagnant for quite some time. However, Honda has announced that the new City will come soon. Thus, there is no reason why Toyota should shy away from bringing the outstanding Vios in Indian market. It was launched a few months ago in Malaysia and the Vios is oozing out on style and dynamism.
Quite obvious to state, the front of the Vios is its most striking highlights. While the upper grille is small, the lower one is a large and feature striking headlamps apart from chrome garnishing in abundance. The new Vios measures 4410 mm in length and puts other mid-sizers to shame. The interiors offer a lot of space with practically. The interiors look premium and designed with supreme quality materials.
Speaking about the engine under its hood, the diesel oil burner seen in Etios will do its duty in the Vios as well even though Toyota may consider fitting it with the petrol mill seen in Corolla Altis. If the Vios is launched in India, it is likely to be priced between Rs. 8 lakhs and Rs. 12 lakhs.
Presently, Toyota has not announced any plans of launching Vios in India. The Vios stands inferior to the Corolla in the carmaker’s portfolio. However, Toyota is of the opinion that the Vios is a tad too upmarket offering for Indian buyers.
