Speaking with regard to sale performance Mr. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director, Marketing “ The sales have slumped because of plant shut down in order to wind up the annual production capacity from 2,0,000 units to 3,10,00 units for the next calendar year. The first plant manufacturing Innova and Fortuner was shut down for a week, and second plant manufacturing Etios, Etios Liva and Camry was shut down for a period of 15 days. The market is yet to grow to the expected pace. We hope to see growth next month due to the year ending sales. The market is expected to rise in the first quarter of next year.’’
Although Toyota sales have slumped, the reasons being hike in petrol prices and the unfortunate global economic meltdown, Toyota models still ply on Indian roads and there is a huge demand for Toyota cars. Along with petrol Toyota diesel cars are also in great demand, but the problem here is the Indian Government is unclear on diesel pricing policies, for this reason the company has to import diesel plants.
The Fortuner which has recorded a 19% growth is one of the most awaited models; appearing next year in India by mid March 2013. This model will be reasonable and more fuel efficient. The company will make certain modifications to the engine to enhance the mileage capacity by replacing their old turbo with a variable nozzle (VN) turbine. They have also installed a top-mount intercooler on the upgraded engine which is why the hood has a scooped contour. Toyota has upgraded the forced-induction system which has bought an increase of 41 % in power and 32 % increase in torque. The company will also introduce a 4×4 option with the 2.5 L Fortuner too. This engine in Thai market is available with the 5-speed manual; the company might introduce the automatic version too. In order to enhance the engine capacity the company has introduced efficient ways to upgrade the engine.
The Toyota Innova has also incurred a growth of 9%. This model has good dimensional features being 4584 mm length, 1760 mm width, 1760 mm height. The impressive mileage, smart sporty exterior, spacious interiors and fine dimensions of the Innova Aero, will draw customers to this model.
The efficient mileage and large dimensional features of the Fortuner and Innova will surely make Toyota cars encounter profit.
