Think of product quality, long life and reliability and immediately you would think of a Japanese brand. Think of all that in an automobile and Toyota will come to mind. It has become synonymous with all these adjectives here in India and worldwide. I have never come across a single person who would tell me horror stories about his/her Toyota. The cars they launched were never flashy but they served the purpose very well. They like to keep the things simple. The launches take a while but when they are about to launch something fresh, every other player in the market is scared. The upgrades on their models are generally mild but then isn’t it hard to improve upon perfection?
The vehicle lineup is not very wide but anything they sell is welcomed in the market with open arms. The 5 speed automatic transmission model was introduced at the start of this year. Also the TRD sportive model was made mainstream. If things go the way they are supposed to, they will launch another version of the very popular Fortuner. Not that it wasn’t selling in good numbers but they are trying to gain more market by launching a 2.5l D4D version of it with almost 140 Bhp of power while retaining everything else from the high capacity model. People already love the Fortuner and if they sell it here, people would go crazy for a low price Fortuner. Other manufacturers need to be scared again.
There has been no car in the Toyota lineup yet which would compete against the likes of Honda city, Suzuki SX4 or Hyundai Verna. Now they might fill that void with a car named Toyota Vios. The car is already present in the Thai market and is based on the Yaris hatch platform. You look at the car and realize right away that it is a Toyota due to the family resemblance. It shares design cues with the corolla as well as the Etios. The car looks great from the pictures we found online and we are sure if it makes it here, it would give the competition a tough time. The Toyota name ensures that with every new launch.
Also on the cards is a funky looking SUV named Rush. It is a compact SUV which would try to get the excise benefit by following the under 4 meter and 1500 cc thing. It would be launched to compete with the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and other coming compact SUVs.
They have got a good repo in India and are planning to add their luxury car brand Lexus in India. It was announced by their managing director at an event. Not sure about what will come and when but it will. This would serve people an alternative to the German luxury car manufacturers.
