It is known that the Japanese car major, Toyota will be developing its much speculated new EcoCar based on the Chinese specification of the Yaris. This new Toyota EcoCar will be officially launching in the car market of Thailand on 22nd of October, 2013.
This new EcoCar is expected to be a huge hit in the Thai market however it might have to compete along with its own sibling, Toyota Vios when price is concerned. The new Toyota car also features quite some design cues from the very popular Vios as well, including the cabin design layout. Toyota might also keep the Yaris moniker intact on this upcoming EcoCar in the Thai market.
Prior to its official launch, few of the chief Toyota dealers in Thailand are also engaging in discussions to highlight the new Yaris’ specifications to attract potential buyers.
The first and foremost USP of the new Toyota Yaris in Thailand is its longer model in order to owe the Asian (excluding japan) consumers who prefer greater interior space. Thus the new Yaris will be longer as against its European and Japanese counterparts. The new Yaris will have a good 2,550mm wheelbase which is also 90mm larger than the current Yaris in Thailand. This great measurement of the car will also give its other EcoCar rivals a run for an update.
The upcoming Toyota Yaris will also be the first among EcoCars to be crossing the length of 4 meters. This means that this new car will be the biggest and most spacious EcoCar in the entire Thai car market.
The new Yaris will also pose to be a big problem for the larger B-segment cars which are not labeled as EcoCars. Thus, the new Yaris is also expected to eat into the demands for Mazda 2, Chevrolet Sonic, Kia Rio and Ford Fiesta.
Though the new Toyota Yaris is yet to launch in the market, it is well expected to have its focus primarily of the fuel economy aspect that is typical with any EcoCar.
Under the hood, the new Yaris will be powered by a 1.2 liter inline 4 cylinder petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 86hp. Though this is falling short as compared against the higher power output of the Honda Brio and the Suzuki Swift, the new Yaris should compensate in the performance level with its less body weight.
As the EcoCars are required to offer a minimum fuel efficiency of 20 km per liter and should not have more than 120g/km of CO2 emission, Toyota has equipped the new Yaris with the CVT automatic transmission to offer a class leading 22.2 km per liter fuel economy.
According to a Toyota dealer, the new car will have 4 model trims of G, E, J and J Eco. Toyota will offer dual airbags as standard across all trims, and off course prices will vary from trim to trim owing to greater convenience features. The price list of the car is not out as yet.
