The 2013 Toyota RAV4 was caught by the spying shutterbugs in West Bengal by a car enthusiast. This naturally implies that Toyota has plans to introduce this excellent SUV that is based on the Camry in India. It seems to be a very feasible plan for Toyota as well, given that the SUV segment in India is booming and the Japanese car maker is going to launch the Camry Hybrid to expand the Camry brand presence in India.
However, no matter how disappointing it sounds, Toyota Kirloskar Motor does not have any plans to bring in the RAV4 in India. A Toyota Kirloskar senior official had already asserted earlier this year that the company is not even thinking about such a launch in India for the time being. Then what’s the meaning of the existence of a 2013 Toyota RAV4 on the Indian roads?
The answer is Toyota might be planning to introduce the 2013 RAV4 either in Nepal or Bhutan, as the car manufacturing leader has been introducing quite some cars in these developing markets. Toyota already sells the RAV4 in the Nepali car market and perhaps the company is taking it to Nepal from across the border of India. There have been quite a few times earlier also that companies have taken cars through the Indian soil that are actually meant for the car market of Nepal.
The new 2013 Toyota RAV4 had been unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in the month of November, 2012. Toyota has commenced the sales of this new car in the car market of United States early in the current year of 2013. The new 2013 RAV4 is a much better avatar as against the current model and offers better performance apart from its new and enhanced visual appeal.
Under the hood, the Toyota RAV4 is powered by a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder petrol motor that has the capability to churn out a maximum power output of 176bhp at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 233Nm at 4,100rpm. Toyota offers a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox along with the company’s all 4 Wheel Drive system in the car market of Nepal.
Toyota has incorporated the cutting age new All Wheel Drive system with three driving modes, namely Lock, Sport and Auto. The ‘Lock’ mode delivers the generated power evenly to all the 4 wheels of the car, but this mode is meant for low speed levels of up to 40 km per hour. The ‘Sport’ driving mode offers better maneuvering capabilities as it delivers the power to the back wheels while taking a sharp turn. In the ‘Auto’ drive mode, the Toyota RAV4’s engine delivers the generated power only to the front wheels of the car, while its rear wheels are called into action only when the car needs extra power to drive it smoothly through the tough road conditions.
The 2013 Toyota RAV4 represents the company’s focus on new technology as well as contemporary styling to enthrall the modern car consumers.
