Indian Government has removed 20% subsidy for hybrid cars

Toyota is a world renowned car company which has explored the possibilities of hybrid models. Environmental protection methods are hot research topics; the alarming increase in pollution levels has taken a toll on the health of the public. In India Delhi has offered to subsidize electric cars and has released the highest electric vehicle figures. The sales in Delhi and other parts of India have dipped to a significant level, when the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) removed 20% of subsidy that was allocated to buyers with four wheeled and two wheeled electric cars. The popular electric car Reva has registered dismal losses recently.

The MNRE ministry, introduced this subsidy in 2010 November, companies registered massive sale profits which extended to even 200%. Last year, this scheme was removed and there was a drastic 50% decline in market value. Mahindra introduced a refreshed Reva model a couple of months ago, and there is now only minimal profit sales recorded, and also according to the company the process of building new cars costs higher than earlier models by Rs 2 lakhs. Sources state that if companies are not keen to put down initial investments of Ra 5 lakhs, it is then tough to put down Rs 7 lakh investments to build new projects without subsidies.

The years 2007-2012 have resulted in massive sales of two wheeled electric vehicles at 55,000 units in New Delhi. According to sources the electric vehicle industry was booming, till the subsidy proposed by MNRE was removed, this has resulted in whooping sale dips of one third. Buyers in New Delhi had abundant buying powers of 2 subsidies, one offered by state government and other by MNRE. Prior to 2009, the electric vehicle figures were decent at 10,000 out of which 60 are cars released in New Delhi on a yearly basis. The sales climbed at 22,000 units after MNRE proposed a new subsidy scheme, and when the new plan was removed, the sales dropped exceedingly at 8,000 units on a yearly basis.

Toyota has launched its Prius hybrid car fitted with powerful 1.8 liter petrol mill and electric motor capacity of 650 vats. The power released by the petrol mill and electric motor is 100kw. The efficient 1.8 liter engine churns impressive efficiencies of 142Nm peak torque and highest power of 5,200 rpm. The electric motor generates shockingly powerful energies of 207Nm highest torque and maximum 60Kw power. The car is built with the cutting edge Synergy Drive Technology; this technology is incredible which allows drivers to choose from 3 driving modes. The Hybrid Synergy Drive Technology is incorporated to increase torque, power, acceleration and fuel efficiency and also minimize carbon-dioxide emission levels. Hybrid vehicles function marvelously where the mileage is increase to a maximum value of 35%.

The Prius is designed with world class hybrid car engineering technology. It would be worth the time and expenditure if companies worked on this technology to new levels. The efficiencies of hybrid models are incredible, and are a boon for environmental protection and swifter movement. Let’s hope the Indian Government encourages the movement of hybrid cars with attractive subsidy schemes.
