Toyota Motor is the world’s auto leader and is obviously the major car maker in its home market of Japan. It is not a very well known fact that the auto giant had released the Lexus RX first in the car market of Japan as the Harrier back in the year 1997. Post its launch and success in the home market, the very capable SUV started for its export markets named as the Lexus RX after a year.

This new generation luxury SUV is basically very similar to the new 2013 Lexus RX model, but in order to keep it separate and exclusive for the Japanese car consumers, Toyota has given it its individual styling with very trendy and classy design elements. Similar to the many Japan specific vehicles in the recent times, the new generation model of the Toyota Harrier flaunts a eye catching plexi-glass transparent front grill giving the car’s frontal looks a bold and sleek styling. This design feature is further enhanced by the combination of aggressive headlight design giving the all new Harrier a head turning front fascia.
Under the hood, the all new Toyota Harrier will be offered to the car consumers of Japan in two powertrain options.
The first among the two engines is a 2.0 liter DOGC 4 cylinder mill mated to an automatic transmission that will be available in both 2 wheel and all 4 wheel drive systems. This engine variant will be available in the Japanese market from 2nd of December, 2013. This engine is actually a variation of the same engine that does its duty under the hood of the very popular Toyota RAV4. It has the capability to produce the maximum power output of 151PS and a peak torque value of 193Nm. The Harrier model with this engine option will provide a fuel efficiency of 16 km per liter as per the Japanese test cycle.
The other powertrain option of the all new Toyota Harrier is that of a Hybrid system. The Toyota Harrier hybrid will be available in the Japanese car market from 15th of January in 2014. The hybrid variant of the Harrier comes powered by a 2.5 liter electric motor that has the capability to produce a combined max power output of 196PS and the peak torque of 206Nm. The latest generation Toyota Harrier will be offered to the Japanese public in only the E-4 all wheel drive system.
