The world’s automotive leader, Toyota Motor is always busy making something new or the other in order to cater to the highly competitive global car markets. The green car pioneer is also making several hybrid and battery cars apart from the talked about Fuel Cell vehicle (FCV) that the company showcased at the latest 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.
Now, the Japanese car major’s brand new Ranz Electric Vehicle has been caught by the spying shutterbugs for the very first time. The Toyota Ranz EV’s production version will be unveiled by the company at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show, which is scheduled to be held in April this year. Following the unveiling of the EV, it will be soon offered for sale in the car market of China sometime in the latter half of this year.
It is a good thing to mention that Ranz is a sub brand of the joint venture between Toyosta and the Chinese car maker FAW. The Ranz brand concentrates on producing low cost and high quality electric vehicles for the convenience of the consumers and the easy adoptability of the EVs. The spied EV is still to be named and is the very first car that will hit the market under the brand name of Ranz EV. This new EV has been created based on the platform of the Toyota Corolla EX.
The new Rantz EV car concept was first showcased at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. The EV’s design draws heavily on the Corolla EX and looks very similar to it. In the production version, Toyota has given it some special attributes to make it look individual and an entirely new car. Nevertheless, though the EV looks clean, stylish and contemporary, it looks nothing really different or special.
As for the Toyota Corolla EX, the car is a made in China model that carries the starting price range of 90.800 Yuan that ends at 113.800 Yuan for the top end model. The worthy and superior quality car is powered by a single engine option of a tried and tested 1.6 liter engine that has the capacity to churn out the max power output of 120hp. The engine is coupled with two transmission options of a 5 speed manual gearbox and a 4 speed automatic transmission gearbox.
The still to be named new Ranz EV model in addition to the 1.6 liter engine will be packing in a powerful electric motor that will be generating a max power of 95horsepower. The electric car will have a good top speed of 120km per hr.
It is still not revealed whether the new upcoming Ranz EV will be offered as a mass market EV or only as a special car that is related to a pilot project. Generally, a bulk of the EV models manufactured by the Chinese sub brands serve their parts in some sort of pilot projects or for demonstration purposes and never make it to the mass market.
