Toyota Camry Hybrid under the probe for safety issues

The world’s auto leader, Toyota Motor is once again being probed for safety issues. The Japanese car major had been under the effect of a long series of global recalls for correcting a number of faulty parts. Though the  car maker has overcome the shame of the global recalls and has once again retained its crown of being the world’s leading auto maker, it is now again under investigation by the U.S.A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

NHTSA is reportedly probing the older Toyota Camry Hybrid models for a possible braking problem. There have been a lot of complaints registered in the NHTSA website, enough to make the US body consider to take things in its hands and take a close look at the issue of the Toyota Camry Hybrid. The possible braking problem can potentially involve as many as 30,000 units of the Camry Hybrid that have been manufactured between the years 2007 and 2008.

According to the reports, 59 consumers have so far registered complaints involving the Toyota Camry Hybrid’s irregular loss of assisted braking that essentially means that the car is taking longer than usual to stop when the brake pedal in pressed. Moreover, the rate of such complaints is on the rise. As per reports, Toyota is constantly cooperating with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the company has not yet officially recalled the Camry Hybrids to be fixed and none of the owners have been officially informed on the same.

Back in the year 2006, the Japanese car major had explained that the Brake Assist is an electronic function which has the capability to sense an emergency stop and thus, applies greater braking power at the time the driver touches the brakes. At the time when the company introduced the 2007 Camry Hybrid, it proudly mentioned that the new Brake Assist system will be standard on all the model trims for enhanced safety.

This is definitely not the first time that the Toyota vehicles are getting some major safety issues. Apart from less potentially dangerous issues, several Toyota cars have had major problems that prompted the company to make global recalls. Included in the long series of Toyota recalls are its other hybrid cars as well, which braking problems in the past. The very popular Toyota Prius’ 2010 model and the luxury brand Lexus HS 250h hybrid also have had their share of braking problems in the past.

The consumers who had reported such braking problems on the Toyota Camry Hybrid have said that the “Check VSC” lights could light up before the brakes actually lose their power, while a number of the Camry hybrid owners with such problem have reported that they are being quoted the repair costs of more than $3,000 by the official Toyota dealers.

The previous year of 2013 has also seen several global recalls from Toyota. However, the company has been extremely prompt on resolving such issues and thus, the consumers are constantly showering their trust on Toyota.
