Toyota working on ‘waku-doki’ design for the next-gen Camry and Prius

World’s auto leader Toyota is currently busy tackling its own challenge of implementing a heady design change for all its future products. The company’s President Akio Toyoda insists on giving the iconic Camry and the Prius hybrid cars a revolutionary design language without hampering these iconic cars’ market positioning.

Toyota has been so far sticking to its safe conservative styling, as it did not wish to take much risk for its all bestselling cars. However, the world’s auto market trend is drastically changing, and new stunning looking cars are constantly threatening some of Toyota’s all time toppers. The same has happened to the iconic Camry sedan, whose straight 12 year long top selling U.S. car’s status is at risk with the advent of new stunning cars. On the other hand, Toyota’s patent Prius hybrid, which has over 200,000 units of annual sales rate in the U.S market, is now being overshadowed by new snazzy hybrids.

Now that the next-generation models of both Camry and the Prius is in the anvil, Toyota is really anxious to give them racy, breathtaking design language. However, the company is keeping mum about the developments and is not providing details.

Toyota is going give its decades old Camry a better design that will be more alluring. The company admits that it has drawbacks in design as compared to the newer cars but is still the top selling car. Now, the company is all set to give a more aggressive styling if not totally radical changes. The ‘too conservative’ styling of the car will certainly get a more appealing overall design both on the outside as well as inside.

Akio Toyoda, the current president and the grandson of the company’s founder, is constantly encouraging the design team to offer the vehicles a radical racy design language. Toyota’s emphasis is certainly on the “waku-doki” design language, which is the Japanese version of heart-racing looks and qualities. This design overhaul is expected to work much better for the company and help it to retain its top position in the world’s auto market.

The Toyota Camry really needs a major design upgrade for its next-gen model in order to be braced better against the rising tough competition. The new age car buyers like to posses stunning looking cars rather than drab quality cars.

At present, the major Camry market rivals are the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Ford Fusion. Hyundai is also coming up with refreshed Sonata, while Chrysler is releasing a new 200 model in 2014. Despite all this competition, Toyota has forecasted that the Camry will remain the US market’s lead car even in 2014 for a straight 13th year.

The world’s hybrid pioneer and the most popular hybrid model, Toyota Prius is also facing great competition. Some major Prius rivals are Nissan Leaf, GM Volt and Tesla Model S. The Prius is expected to flaunt a complete revolutionary design language in its next generation model, which is to be seen on all Toyota future products.
