Toyota Rush vs Volkswagen Taigun

The latest product from Toyota, the Rush has a typical compact SUV look and is all set to take the Indian compact SUV market by storm. Impressive looks and quite a good comfort level as well as abundant room to accommodate seven occupants, the Rush is likely to be announced at an ex-showroom price between Rs. 8 lakhs and Rs. 11 lakhs.

Engine & performance

The Toyota Rush is equipped with powerful 3 SZ VE four-cylinder mill that generates a maximum power output of 80 Kw revving at 6000 rpm and churns a peak torque of 141Nm revving at 4400 rpm. Al the variants of the Rush come equipped with identical DHOC engine which is developed with VVT-I technology. This helps to close and opens the car valves faster and thus enhances the car’s fuel efficiency. The Toyota Rush’s engine comes mated with a five-speed manual transmission gearbox as well as four-speed automatic with an intelligently developed grate shifter technology. This SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine in Indian market as well as 1.4-litre D-4D turbocharged diesel mill that offers a fuel economy of 17 kmpl.

The compact SUV segment is certainly emerging as a hot favorite and German carmaker Volkswagen does not want to stay behind. Thus, the automaker launched its own offering in this segment, called as Taigun which was also introduced at Sao Paulo Auto Show, held in 2012. At this motor show, VW introduced this car as a concept and it garnered several accolades.

The Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV is likely to be powered by a potent 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, stratified injection based, turbocharged petrol engine. The engine is capable of producing an impressive power output of 108 bhp at 5000 rpm as well as churns out impressive torque of 174 Nm at 1500 rpm. The engine of the Taigun is likely to be linked with a six speed manual or a direct shift (DSG) gearbox that offers a smooth ride. It offers a fuel economy of 21 kmpl.

Toyota Rush Exteriors

The Toyota Rush’s exteriors look simply spending and very elegant and also have a sporty appearance. With the 215/65R16 alloy tyres, the Rush gets impressive stability, which makes it suitable for long drives. The car’s headlamps aid in safe driving in poor light conditions and the headlamps as well as the arresting grille have an arresting appeal. The rear bumper and rear lamps have the voguish aerokit style and the vehicle also has 16 –inch alloy wheels.

Taigun Exteriors

The Volkswagen Taigun has been introduced recently and it carried forward design elements of its SUV siblings, the Touareg and the Tiguan. It is very much obvious at the car’s side panels, roof rails and underbody protection with LED spotlights included in the Taigun’s design. Volkswagen has developed the Taigun to be an upscale SUV, targeting especially the urban buyers. The elevated driving position provides an unrestricted view for the driver on congested roads.
