Japanese carmaker Toyota which had recently stated that it will be developing Corolla models for sales to Central and South American markets from Mississippi unit has announced roll out of first export ready product. The production facility is located at Blue Springs in Mississippi State of United States and will be manufacturing only conventional fuel based Corolla cars for export to South and Central America along with Caribbean nations. According to Toyota’s official announcement the facility has capacity to produce 7500 Corolla models every month which will be exported to around 18 nations around these locations. Last financial year, Toyota exported around 130,000 units of cars from across its production units in United States which was a record.
The Blue Springs unit is very important for Toyota since it has shut down production facilities in Australia due to operational problems and has to meet export demand within western hemisphere from this unit. This export oriented production unit which only makes Corolla’s as of now is able to provide employment to around 2000 local residents while providing business opportunity to suppliers and business partners in this endeavor. Toyota’s Blue Springs production unit was opened in 2011 which has capacity to produce around 160,000 units annually and during its first year of production it produced nearly 100,000 units. The carmaker also has through this unit managed to strengthen Mississippi’s fledging automobile industry.
Speaking during this proud moment the governor of Mississippi State stated that when new Corolla cars are exported to nations around the globe from this facility then world will recognize quality of local talent and set up their production centers in this area. Toyota has long since been an investor in America and has production facilities in other location in Southern Automobile Corridor. The Mississippi production facility has been set up with an investment layout of $800 million and Toyota has since then investment around $2.1 billion across is production facilities and provided employment to nearly 4000 US citizens. The Toyota facility at Mississippi will help the firm to export totally nine vehicles across four manufacturing units within United States.
The Mississippi production unit of Toyota was its eighth plant in United States and is registered as subsidiary of Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America. For Toyota quality and safety of its buyers and employees are a top priority which is visible in their products which are appreciated worldwide for their design and technological competence. The firm is also quick to notice and accept fault in design or engineering flaws and recalls faulty vehicles for replacement which is carried out free of cost. The unit was earlier going to produce Toyota’s hybrid model Prius but due to closure of its California facility, it was decided to manufacture Corolla at Mississippi. It is regarded as Toyota’s most advanced plant among the 65 owned and operated by it worldwide wherein the emphasis is not on “big is beautiful” but on lean and efficient production cycle with heavy reliance on automated processes using robots. The firm which has been earning profits for past couple of years is now convinced that its tough phase is about to start due to dull revenues earned during first quarter.
