Japanese car maker Toyota has unveiled the latest version of its Yaris car at Beijing Auto Show and also confirmed that it will curtail production of its three door variant with immediate effect. The carmaker stated that lack of demand was main driver for removal of three door variant and focusing attention on improving features of five door hatchback. While earlier the demand for both models was equal, in recent month’s sales of five door hatch accounts for nine of every 10 Yaris models sold by Toyota. There was a marginal difference of price between both models and Toyota has not stated price range for new Yaris which has updated exterior and interior features which will be ready for sale by September 2014.
Latest model of Yaris will be designed with a striking front fascia comprising nose like Aygo model with Toyota logo in chrome. Its redesigned grille is wide and cuts through front bumper and is held up by body colored rim on lower side giving it an edgy appearance. The redesigning of Yaris has been done on basis of Toyota’s two latest design concepts namely “Under Priority” and “Keen Look” which integrates classic sturdiness with modern understated lines. Its fog lights are neatly outlined in black and fixed into groves on either sides of grille. The headlamp section is outlined by chrome rim which forms a distinct shape under front Toyota logo separating top and bottom grilles.
Besides projector lamp within headlights cluster there is a side indicator and line of blue LED lamps highlighted by daytime burning lamps on top. Rear taillights have restyled LED lamps with diffuser and embedded license plate section. Interiors have been redesigned based on customer preference for spaciousness, luxury, color tones and comfort features therefore are more upmarket. The car’s mechanism has been upgraded with revised suspension system which provides more comfort and better handling capacity. Its interior insulation has been improved to reduce noise level within the cabin by several degrees therefore making the music system more audible. Its steering wheel and braking technology along with suspension system have been revised based on customer feedback to make it more responsive.
Since this car is only meant for sale in Europe it is available in two petrol versions of 1.0 liter and 1.3 liter and also with 1.4D-4D diesel engine. Being a market leader in making hybrid cars, Toyota has also produced a hybrid version of the Yaris available in Europe providing varied fuel choices to customers. The car’s previous tyres have been replaced with black alloy tyres with artistic wheel design. In Asian markets of Japan and China the Yaris is called as Vitz while in Europe and Australia its name is Yaris and both have undergone similar changes. Further changes to the car’s interiors include new dashboard design with large touchscreen on central console comprising Toyota’s Link Infotainment System. Steering wheel has leather cover for better grip with contrast color stitching while seats have been finer fabric upholstery with climate controlled air-conditioning and heating features.
