Toyota has very recently brought in the new Toyota Corolla; Corolla has fascinated the public for years. From the 1960’s till today, the car has matured through generations. The car is a symbol of style, class and sophistication, the new piece is the eleventh gen model and comes in a greater wonder package. Now the hot debate topic is competition, the new Corolla is certainly hard to beat. Let’s see how it fares against Renault Fluence.
Exteriors:
The new Corolla stunned the crowd to no end at 2014 Auto Expo; it is a greater marvel from the past. The fascination lies in innovative Furia concept, creatively styled trapezoidal grille, inventively shaped swept back Bi-Xenon headlights and large front airdam. The car looks impressively elegant from the side with 16 inch alloy wheels. The back section has angular shaped tail lights and silky spoiler.
The new Renault Fluence is equally charismatic with glossy grille compartment and inventively decorated day time running fog lights and projector headlights.
Interiors:
The insides of new Corolla are magnificently amazing contributed by refined aluminium finish, and beige and black colour theme. The surprise factor lies in 7 inch touchscreen with world class music system with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, and voice controls. There are heaps of comfort elements to look forward to with reclining seats, front heated seats, and 60:40 rear split capacity. The car is decked with safety with EBD, ABS, 2 point NR seatbelt, 3 point ELR and dual SRS airbags.
The new Fluence is vibrantly attractive with refined light beige and grey colour theme with sprinkled of silver metal inserts. There is a state-of-the art infotainment system with Bluetooth, Aux-in and USB connectivity. The system is super powerful with eight speakers. The air con has air con vents and Auto Bi Zone climate control. The other comfort and reliable features are electronic stability control, anti-slip regulation, EBD, ABS, side airbags and dual front airbags.
Engine:
The new Corolla is fitted with diesel 1.4 litre D4D engine that churns 205Nm and 87.1bhp. The petrol car is injected with 1.8 litre engine engineered with advanced VVT-I technology that produces 173Nm and 138bhp. The petrol and diesel car is mated to 6 speed manual transmission and customers can opt for an additional 7 speed automatic transmission with petrol car.
Fluence is sold with diesel engine only and gathers its energy from robust K9K 1.5 litre engine that emits 240Nm and 108bhp. The engine is coupled with 6 speed manual transmission gearbox.
Pricing:
The new Corolla Altis costs Rs 12 to 16 lakhs; the initial price of Fluence is Rs 14.3 lakhs and stretches to Rs 15.6 lakhs.
It is a tough battle between the two models; the two cars are equally attractive in terms of exteriors and interior décor. Corolla comes in greater excitement package contributed by seven inch touch screen. Corolla has more to offer with regard to engine options, there is only a diesel option with Fluence. Both cars are reliable on safety front.
The new Corolla is an ideal representation of a dream car, packed with safety, fantasy and technology and is a worthier purchase.
