Global auto leader Toyota Motor had first launched its Yaris back in the year 1999, though the same car was sold in the North American car market as the Echo. Toyota launched the second generation model of the Yaris in 2005, which was followed by the third generation model in the year 2011. The all new fourth generation model is expected to be released in the U.S sometime in 2015 or early 2016, which is to be produced in Mexico and utilize the same platform as the next-gen Mazda2. However, the Japanese auto giant wishes to keep its customers engaged until the next-gen Yaris comes to the picture, and thus has launched a new facelift for the Yaris in some markets, including Europe.
The new Toyota Yaris, which is also known as the Vitz in the company’s home market Japan is a facelift version. Though it is a somewhat mild facelift, the new Yaris does come with a lot of new styling elements and enhanced visual appeal some of which are borrowed from the new Toyota Aygo and the new Yaris Hybrid-R concept that was displayed by the company.
The Yaris or the Vitz carry noteworthy design changes for both the car’s frontal and rear styling. Though the more appealing updated styling for the European Yaris model is actually more aggressive than its Japanese Vitz counterpart, both the cars have been now made more contemporary, engaging and stylish than the older model.
The European as well as the Japanese Yaris counterparts now feature a new ‘X’ motif which seems to have been incorporated by Toyota to the entire range of new cars from Toyota. This new styling pattern is especially visible in all the new compact hatchbacks from the house of the Japanese auto major.
The front fascia of the new Yaris now looks bolder and more attractive with a revised grill, headlamps and chrome garnishes. The refreshed model’s rear end has also been made more attractive with the employment of new redesigned LED tail lights and a new faux diffuser in the rear bumper.
Toyota has also paid a good deal of attention on the inside of the cabin of the new Yaris, which has been redesigned to offer roomier and more comfortable drive experience to the customers. Though the new Yaris is only a facelift model, the company has given it a more comprehensive update and made the cabin quieter, while endowing it with additional equipments. The car’s suspension is also improved. The European Yaris will continue to be powered by the same 1 and 1.3 liter gasoline engines, 1.4 liter diesel and hybrid powertrain choices.
Toyota has still not released all the details about the new refreshed 2014 Yaris, which is expected to be out soon. There are yet no official words on the revised price range if any. For now, all that can be said is that the new Toyota Yaris has emerged in a more appealing and refined avatar to charm its owners.
