Toyota has been one of the most reliable manufacturer not only in India but worldwide. They are known for their quality, innovation and reliability. They have got many impressive products in the Indian market. They launched the Etios sedan to enter the budget segment and it was later followed by the Etios hatchback. Now they are targeting other segments as well to stand up against the rivals and ensure that the hot segments aren’t left out. It is being reported that the Toyota Avanza MPV will be entering our market soon to compete with the Suzuki Ertiga and Honda Mobilio.
In other news, it is being discussed that Toyota might bring an urban SUV in the market. It won’t be as mighty or costly as the Toyota Fortuner and will be targeted at people looking for a large comfortable UV to drive around. This new product is the Toyota Rush SUV. It is already being sold in many other markets like Malaysia. The design of this SUV is pretty impressive though there are bits that might not appeal to everyone.
The front face has got a small grille and headlamps that extend around the sides into the bonnet. The type of headlamp would depend on the variant you pick. Lower models get standard halogen lamps while the higher variants get projection lamps. While the Fortuner has a hood that sits very high, this one slants down giving it a nose that would look better on a MUV. Move beyond that and it looks quite attractive. The side profile is identical to the Toyota Fortuner, just a little smaller. The alloy wheels also look very much similar to the Toyota Fortuner though you don’t get that fat rubber on it. Instead you get a decent 215/65 R16 tyre.
The rear also resembles to the Toyota Fortuner but instead of the small windscreen, this one digs deeper into the door in the middle. Inside you get decent level of equipment though they are laid out in a very conservative manner just like you would expect on a Toyota. It is available in 6 or 7 seater configurations. It gets a 3 spoke steering wheel which looks nice. The instrument cluster is easy to read. All the controls are easily accessible to the driver and have been placed after lot of thought.
Powering this engine is a 1500 cc DOHC engine using the Toyota VVT-I technology. It develops an impressive 110 bhp which is plenty to pull this SUV effortlessly. If this SUV makes it to Indian market, they might have to add the option of a diesel engine as well. The Toyota Fortuner is coming with a smaller engine option of 2.5 liter. This one might get an even smaller engine, maybe the one from Etios in a different state of tune. If it makes it here, it will compete against the likes of popular Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Safari. The brand value and customer satisfaction would definitely put this product above the rivals.
