The Indian counterpart of the Japanese auto major, Toyota Motor is recently getting great response in the Indian car market with its two new launches in the form of the new Corolla and the Etios Cross. However, the world’s leading auto company could not be so successful in India as the rest of the world and feels the lack of a premium sedan that could be placed below the City sedan. Toyota offers the entry-level sedan Etios which is fairly selling and its premium sedan iconic Corolla is getting great response in its new avatar. However, the advent of several new cars below the segment of the Corolla, makes the Japanese car maker feel the void all the more. This could make Toyota soon bring in its new mid-range sedan, the globally acclaimed Vios by next year.
This could really prove to be a very beneficial decision for Toyota as the segment is very happening with great successful cars such as the Hyundai Verna and the all new Honda City. The all new Toyota Vios is presently available in the Asian car market, Thailand and could come to India soon.
The Toyota Vios is a hugely popular car in the International markets and flaunts the company’s latest version design philosophy that can also be seen in all new Corolla. The next-gen Toyota Vios flaunts hints of its larger sedan sibling Corolla’s bold and elegant design, but is smaller in overall dimensions. The Toyota Vios being a car for the Asian markets is fitted with a powerful 1.5 liter VVT-I, 4-cylinder DOHC petrol engine. The sturdy engine pumps out a max power of 108 bhp and a peak torque of 142 Nm and comes mated to a standard 5 speed manual transmission gearbox and an optional 4 speed automatic transmission gearbox.
The new Toyota Vios looks great with a bold front fascia with chrome finished front grille, stylish bumper and smoked-halogen headlight clusters. The side profile is also flamboyantly styled with great character lines and alloy wheels.
On the inside, the Vios offers power tilt-adjustable steering wheel and a great multimedia system as standard, while the top end models also get power folding ORVMs, steering wheel mounted controls, remote trunk opening, fold-flat rear seats and infotainment display.
Being a Toyota car it comes packed with great safety including Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist system, SRS dual airbags and 3-point seatbelts.
The Indian market will get even more mid ranged quality sedans, but the cool and very popular Vios will definitely have its advantages in India, given Toyota brand power and its global leadership in producing the best of reliable sedans.
As per the market experts, the Toyota Vios should have a price range of around Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 11 lakh. The Vios thus, will be a direct competitor of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna Fluidic, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. Toyota Vios could prove to be the company’s next game changer in India.
