The hatchback turned crossover segment in India is a new segment and not that popular as yet, as the customers really can’t figure out the difference between these and the sub-compact hatchbacks. However, the advent of new, attractive looking cars in this segment might as well make this segment very lucrative and popular soon enough.
The perfect example of a popular hatchback-crossover model in India is the Toyota Etios Cross, the newest member of the Etios family. For those who don’t know, the Etios Cross is actually the fully revamped version of the Etios Liva hatchback.
Launched in the month of May this year, the Etios Cross has been a well received car in India and is also selling very well making the company happy about its performance in the market. The Etios Cross though essentially the same Liva as is available in India, offers much better style factor and a great sporty visual appeal which has gone well with the young crowd of India which was aimed by Toyota very rightly.
The new Toyota Etios Cross comes with a very aggressive face, with a new grille, refreshed bumpers, full body cladding, roof spoiler, skid plats, loads of chrome garnishes, totally refreshed and more premium interiors, and newly designed larger diamond cut alloy wheels that also gives it increased ground clearance for better rough road performance. Though the Etios Cross is by no means a real SUV, it certainly has alluring looks and aggressive stance of a SUV, which works well with the stylish city dwellers who never actually make their SUVs hit the off-roads.
Fiat India has released a small trailer for the Avventura crossover ahead of its launch during the festival season. The Italian car maker showcased the vehicle at the 2014 Auto Expo in February.
Now, the Toyota Etios Cross is soon going to get tough competition from the new upcoming Fiat Avventura which is due for its Indian market launch in this festive season. The Avventura is based on the Fiat Punto hatchback and has the killer looks to fit its fast growing compact crossover segment.
In terms of looks, the Fiat Avventura will come with projector headlights, a full body kit, chunky tyres as well as a tail gate mounted spare wheel in order to give it the aggressive SUV.
On the inside as well, the Fiat Avventura will have the same interiors as the Punto albeit with lots of design changes and minor additions such as a two tone upholstery, chrome inserts and some more.
The Fiat Avventura will be powered by the same range of engines as the Punto which are 1.2 liter and 1.4 liter petrol engines and 1.3 liter Multijet diesel engine. The engines will be mated to a 5 speed or a 6 speed manual gearbox.
Fiat Avventura is expected to be priced at Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh and will compete with the Toyota Etios Cross and VW Cross Polo.
