Honda City has been a very popular car in the Indian market. Its sales have received a refresh with the addition of a diesel engine as the market is dominated by diesel vehicles. Soon after the launch of the New City, it was on the top once again. Now Toyota is planning to come up with the Toyota Vios to fill in the gap between the Etios sedan and Corolla. The Vios will go against cars like City and Verna and the Toyota brand will definitely help them give a good fight to the rivals.
The Vios sedan is already on sale in various markets like Indonesia. The design scheme is similar to the current generation Toyota Corolla. You will notice that it has got a grille similar to the Toyota Corolla and so are the headlamps. The bumper however is different and has got a large air dam with a large protruding bumper. The front end looks heavy and the overall front look is impressive. The side profile is similar to the current generation Corolla and the roof nicely flows down into the boot. The waistline of the car sits a bit high giving it a sporty character and a leaning stance. The wheel arches are flared further aiding the looks. The tail lamps wrap around the boot nicely and rise up along the sides. The lamps are angular and look quite nice. The boot lid is a bit narrow due to the wide tail lamps.
The interiors of the car are very much similar to 2014 Corolla. The dashboard layout would appear to be familiar if you have been in the Corolla. There is an abundance of beige inside the car and they have used silver plastics at places to add some contrast. As it is a Toyota, expect top notch quality and fit & finish. Other features like music system, steering mounted audio controls that are standard in vehicles of this category would come as standard. Features like climate control would be offered on the top of the line variants.
This sedan will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. These engines would be the same as found on the Toyota Etios. For petrol, there is a 1.5 litre petrol engine using VVT-I technology. The diesel engine is a 1.4 litre unit which might generate different amount of power here. There will be multiple transmission options on offer here. Obviously there will be a five speed manual for the petrol engine. Apart from that expect a six speed manual box for the diesel engine. It would also be offered with a seven step CVT box. The rival Honda City is also offered with a CVT box as an option. On the Honda City, you can find a 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol engine that generates a peak power of 116 bhp and a recently launched i-DTEC diesel engine that generates a peak power of 100 bhp. This engine is also found under the hood of Honda Amaze and Honda Mobilio.
