The Japanese auto giant and the world’s auto leader, Toyota Motor is best known for its superb hybrid cars. The company is the pioneer of hybrid cars and still takes pride in offering a range of best hybrid cars available in the globe. Toyota is constantly making advancements in the hybrid technology in order to keep ahead of the stiff market competition and to keep the world spell bounded with its awesome hybrid models.
The very potential Indian car market is important for all the car majors operating in it, and obviously it is important for Toyota as well. Though the Japanese car major is outstandingly popular in the international car markets, its popularity is understated in India. However, now it is being said that Toyota is going to make a statement in India by introducing more of its hybrid car models.
It is known that India is no market for the great hybrid cars, but this did not deter Toyota from introducing its hybrid cars to the domestic market. While the Prius is available through the CBU route, the all new Toyota Camry hybrid is locally produced in India. It is reported that the Japanese car major’s Indian presence Toyota Kirloskar Motor is now contemplating extending its range of hybrid cars in India as well.
Toyota India is supposed to be thinking of introducing the hybrid version of its all new Corolla sedan. However, the Japanese car giant is reportedly waiting for the new electric vehicle policy to come in place in India. As this policy is also expected to offer subsidies on all eco-friendly vehicles including the hybrid vehicles, Toyota is willing to wait for the policy prior to the introduction of any more new hybrid vehicles in India.
As hybrid cars are essentially expensive owing to its costly technology, the effectiveness of such a policy will certainly help Toyota to price its hybrid cars more affordably in India. The reduced price tags as a result will ensure success for the very capable Toyota hybrids.
India however, is very slow in its actions towards supporting the environment friendly vehicles that are the need of the hour. Without government support the very green EVs and the superbly efficient hybrid vehicles cannot sustain in India, as they are expensive and the Indian car market is very price sensitive.
Many car makers in India are very interested in launching their range of global hybrid and electric vehicles, but are avoiding it as the government policy supporting the vehicles is not getting implemented. Even India’s own Mahindra & Mahindra is struggling to sell its great E2O electric car due to its high price
Toyota India has managed to sell a total 541 units of the all new Camry Hybrid, since its launch in 2013. Currently, the hybrid version accounts for 75 percent of the total Camry sales. The Toyota Camry Hybrid is manufactured at an exclusive production line in one of the twin facilities of Toyota Kirloskar Motor in Bidadi, in Karnataka.
