The global markets including India are waiting to receive the next generation Toyota Fortuner premium SUV. The great popular SUV from the house of the Japanese auto giant is slated to make its global debut in 2015. Prior to that, Toyota is obviously busy intensively testing the vehicle making it a favorite of the spy shutterbugs. In fact, the next-gen Fortuner and next-gen Innova are both highly spied vehicles of recent times. The all new Fortuner’s test prototype has been spotted again in Australia. This time around, the vehicle’s grand side profile has been revealed in the spy pictures.
The ongoing model of the Toyota Fortuner measures 4.7 meters long and going by the spy pictures, the new-gen Fortuner will also be about the same size, and even slightly bigger. The extended rear window of the vehicle points that it could offer enhanced space in the rear rows over the current model.
The all new 2016 Fortuner is developed on the entirely new ladder frame chassis which is shared with the next-gen Innova. This platform maintains the patent ruggedness of the current-gen model, while also likely to improve on body stability and sturdiness. The all new Fortuner is actually based on the next-gen Hilux pickup truck and also share the same front fascia albeit with modifications. All the three highly popular Toyota vehicles’, namely the Fortuner, Innova and Hilux will make their entry into the global market in their next generation avatar next year. So, the year 2015 is certainly going to be very important for the world’s most selling car brand.
Like the global markets, the highly capable Toyota Fortuner premium SUV is very popular in the Indian car market as well. The Fortuner is a well established and revered vehicle in India and the leading model in the premium SUV segment of India. The next-gen Fortuner is expected to boost the sales as well as market presence of the model in India when it launches here.
However, although both the all new Fortuner as well as all new Innova are supposed to hit the global markets by next year, they are not expected to launch in the Indian market until the year 2016. Toyota’s newly developed diesel motor range is expected to power both these next-gen SUV and MPV models. Both manual as well as automatic transmission options will be offered on the all new Fortuner similar to the ongoing model.
The Toyota Fortuner is the bestselling model in the premium SUV segment, but its competition is surely getting stiffer. The new Ford Endeavour has been already announced with great new technical specs accompanied by great exterior as well as interior styling. Considering the Fortuner’s able rivals, Toyota has to make its star performer Fortuner even more awesome to stay ahead in the sales race.
The Fortuner’s market rivals are the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. The next-gen Toyota Fortuner is expected to cost at around Rs. 20 to 25 lakhs in India.
