Toyota developing next generation Vios with Indian specs, India launch in 2018

It is already a known fact that Toyota Motor is considering to launch its popular Vios sedan in the Indian car market in order to get a share of the highly popular and growing premium sedan segment in India. Now, it has come to light that the Japanese car major is making the next generation model of the Vios, keeping the Indian specifications in mind.

The Toyota Vios has been a very successful sedan model in many global car markets where the car gets large number of takers, but it has not been introduced to the car market of India so far. Toyota’s iconic Corolla is offered in the Indian car market as the Toyota Corolla Altis, but it sits a notch above the popular C-segment of the premium sedan models in India. The more premium Corolla Altiexpensive model, and though it has a distinctive and respectable position in the Indian car market, it really does not fetch heavy volumes for the company.

This is why the Vios is being planned for the Indian car market. With the launch of the new Vios, the Japanese car major wishes to enter the proper C-segment of India and fight with the likes of the segment leader, Honda City. This will ensure that the company gets a sales boost and a representative in the highly popular segment, while also not losing focus on the premium products that the company wish to do in the country.

It is being said that Toyota’s Asia Pacific wing is developing the next generation model of the Vios while keeping the Indian specifications in mind. As per a latest report, the Japanese car major plans to debut the Vios in the month of January in the year 2018. Though it might sound distant, with the next generation Vios, the Indian car market will get the latest and the best model, ensuring it has better chances for success in the highly competitive car market of India.

Reports also say that the Indian presence of the Japanese company, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has already placed orders for the car components of the next generation Vios sedan model, which if true confirms the Indian launch of the car. The next generation Toyota Vios will get two new engines, namely a 1.6 liter petrol and a 1.6 liter diesel mill.

The report also says that Toyota initially aims to sell only 25,000 units of the all new Vios in the country per year, but later it could increase the sales goal to 65,000 units annually depending on the demands.

The Toyota Vios will be placed above the Toyota Etios in the Indian market, being a larger and a more premium model. Post its Indian market, it will go up against the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid, all of which fight in the highly popular Indian C-segment.
