The all new Toyota Corolla has recently debuted on the Indian roads. The redesigned sedan from Toyota looks every bit a masterpiece with the chic look and the standard LED headlights. The chiseled appearance of the new Corolla only highlights the fact that Toyota has pushed itself into overdrive mode by taking new risks with the car designs and yet retaining the appeal of its flagship products.
A spokesperson from Toyota has commented that the carmaker is all set to make ‘a much stronger design statement’ with the launch of the 2014 Corolla. The new Corolla looks similar to the Corolla Furia Concept that was first out during the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The all new 2014 Toyota Corolla will be available for sale from the fall of the year while the pricing of the car will be announced when the launch date is near. With the launch of the new Toyota Corolla, the carmaker is also waiting for it to join the esteemed 40-mpg club.
The all-new 2014 Corolla LE Eco model will be targeting a speed of about 40 mph while driving on highways. The LE Eco model sports a color-keyed rear spoiler, underbody covers and also low-rolling resistance tyres fitted on the 15-inch wheels. The new Corolla is powered by a fuel-efficient 1.8 litre four-cylinder engine integrated with a constantly fluctuating transmission.
The new Corolla’s base model comprises of a carryover 132- horsepower equipped in the 1.8 litre four cylinder engine. The base L model is fitted with a four-speed automatic transmission or the driver can choose for a six-speed manual transmission. The Corolla S also features the six-speed manual transmission.
The 2014 Corolla has not yet received the ratings from the EPA. However, fitted with 1 .8 liter four cylinder engine, the 2014 Corolla delivers 27 mpg on city roads and 40 mpg on highways as per the EPA statistics. The outgoing 2013 Corolla which was fitted with the same engine and featured four-speed automatic transmission delivered 28 mpg on city roads and fetched 34 mpg on highways.
The Corolla continues to be one of the most liked cars in this segment for a period of almost four decades. The look of the car has been retained by the car maker while adding the necessary upgrades over the years.
On the other hand, the all new Honda City is set to be unveiled at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo. Honda has tasted much success with the City since it was launched for the first time on India roads and the Japanese carmaker is leaving no stone turned to ensure that the launch of the new City lives up to the hype. Honda replaces the City after a period of five years and the last one is nearing the 5 year completion. The present City was launched during last year.
It is rumored that the new City a.k.a Next Generation City will be equipped with a 1.5 litre diesel as well as a petrol engine. Though the petrol engine is expected to remain the same as the outgoing model, its power output might be modified. The 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine will remain the same. It is expected that the new Honda City will be manufactured at the Rajasthan plant and will be large based on the all-new Jazz platform.
